Reporting Officer's Narrative

REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE (Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)

At 1:51 p.m., Reporting Investigators (R/Is) Detectives S. Murphy and E. Parker arrived at Carol Fitch's residence at 665 North 14th Street to arrest Carol Fitch for the April 19 homicide of Professor Douglas Reed.

R/Is rang the doorbell and announced themselves. R/Is then heard footsteps that sounded as if someone was running away from the front door. R/I Parker moved to the back of the residence while R/I Murphy again identified herself and commanded that the defendant open the door. The defendant replied that she "was not decent."

R/I Murphy again commanded that the defendant open the door. When the defendant opened the door, R/Is placed her under arrest. The defendant was handcuffed and advised of her rights. Transportation to the Sheriff's Department proceeded without incident.

At 2:17 p.m., R/Is turned the defendant over to Sheriff's Department personnel for processing. At all times while in custody, the defendant appeared lucid and coherent. During transport, the defendant was cooperative and seemed to comprehend what was happening to her.

DEFENDANT'S VERSION/REMARKS (What did the defendant say?)

The defendant said she understood her rights, but repeatedly said she did not understand why she had been arrested. The defendant cooperated physically and did not resist in any way.
