Sharon Hathaway is Vincent Gayle's live-in girlfriend.

Detectives Beckwith and Magee spoke to her again at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

  • Detective P. Beckwith
  • Detective J. Magee
  • Sharon Hathaway

Detective Magee: You understand that you are here under your own volition and are free to go at any time.

Sharon Hathaway: Okay. Is there some sort of problem?

Detective Magee: We're just doing our jobs. We need your full name and address again to start.

Sharon Hathaway: I'm Sharon Hathaway. I live at 3 County Road 169 in Alesville.

Detective Beckwith: We just got done speaking with your fiancé.

Sharon Hathaway: Vince?

Detective Beckwith: He's told us quite a story.

Sharon Hathaway: About?

Detective Magee: Actually, we'd like to hear your side of it first. Tell us how you knew where Daniel was going for his New Year's Eve party?

Sharon Hathaway: Uh, okay, no big mystery. He told me over breakfast that day.

Detective Beckwith: What did he say exactly?

Sharon Hathaway: I don't know about "exactly," but he said he was going down to John Kyle Park to a cabin for New Year's. He was taking Brandon over and meeting up with Claire Rivas. He told us not to wait up.

Detective Beckwith: "Us?" Was Vince with you at the time?

Sharon Hathaway: Yeah. It was breakfast.

Detective Magee: Okay, tell us again all the events of January 2nd, 2021, but this time, the whole truth.

Sharon Hathaway: I did tell you the whole truth. It was just a normal day. I worked from home a bit that day in the afternoon. That night Vince and I went to Bible study, which is what we always do. When we got home at 10:00 or so, Dan wasn't home. We thought he took off to New York. He was an adult. What are you going to do?

Detective Magee: You got home at 10:00 p.m.? The first time we talked, you said you got back from bible study at 9:00 p.m.?

Sharon Hathaway: Detective Magee, it was so long ago. I messed up on the time, I guess. Is that what y'all are having a problem with? That I messed up on the time?

Detective Beckwith: No. We have a lot more to discuss than time.

Sharon Hathaway: Seriously? Just so you have it right, it was closer to 10:00 p.m.

Detective Magee: What car did you take to Bible study?

Sharon Hathaway: Vince's, like always.

Detective Beckwith: Where was Vincent's car before you left for Bible study?

Sharon Hathaway: In the garage, like always.

Detective Beckwith: Where was Daniel at the time you left?

Sharon Hathaway: Um… He was changing the oil in his car in the garage. We told him goodbye before we left, even asked if he wanted to come with us like he used to, but he just went on changing the oil. He was still mad at Vince for being unsupportive of his artistic dreams.

Detective Magee: Was Daniel or his car in the garage when you returned?

Sharon Hathaway: No.

Detective Magee: Did you notice that anything strange had happened in your garage while you were gone?

Sharon Hathaway: No.

Detective Beckwith: We have evidence that Daniel lost quite a bit of his blood in your garage that evening.

Sharon Hathaway: Are you kidding?

Detective Magee: How do you explain that?

Sharon Hathaway: I can't. I was at Bible study. I don't even think that's possible.

Detective Magee: Can you explain why your fingerprints are on a jack Daniel used to change the oil that night?

Sharon Hathaway: I don't know. My fingerprints are all over everything at the house. I live there, remember?

Detective Beckwith: But, really … your fingerprints on a jack in the garage?

Sharon Hathaway: C'mon, I'm a Mississippi girl. I know how to change a spare.

Detective Magee: So you do know how this jack works.

Sharon Hathaway: So, what's that prove?

Detective Beckwith: Well, Vincent says that you dropped Daniel's car on him while he was changing the oil and then bludgeoned him with the jack handle. Was it an accident?

Sharon Hathaway: What? I did no such thing. Vincent never said that.

Detective Magee: I'm afraid he did. He also said he helped you clean up the blood.

Sharon Hathaway: Well, I didn't. I think y'all are making this up to trick me into saying something.

Detective Magee: Tricking you? You're the one who said your garage was normal on your return from Bible study, yet the evidence and Vince suggest that it was covered with blood. It looks to me like you're lying.

Sharon Hathaway: I'm not.

Detective Beckwith: Did you kill Daniel for his trust fund or to start a family fresh with your new fiancé?

Sharon Hathaway: What a horrible thing to say!

Detective Magee: Not as horrible as masquerading as Daniel for weeks in an attempt to throw investigators off of your trail. We know that the four Facebook logins to Daniel's account in January were all from your home. Care to explain?

Sharon Hathaway: I don't have to explain anything to you.

Detective Magee: Vincent already detailed how you helped dump the body near John Kyle Park and how you helped stash Daniel's car at the Memphis airport.

Sharon Hathaway: All lies.

Detective Beckwith: You better hope Memphis International doesn't come up with surveillance footage of you driving the get-away car.

Sharon Hathaway: How would they? Since none of this happened.

Detective Beckwith: I suppose the witness who saw you and Vince dump Daniel's body is made up too?

Sharon Hathaway: You said it.

Detective Magee: So, you refuse to acknowledge that you had any role in Daniel's death.

Sharon Hathaway: You're damn right!

Detective Beckwith: Place your hands on the table. Jo, could you search and cuff her? Sharon, you are under arrest for first-degree murder. You have the right to remain silent. If you choose not to remain silent, your words can and will be used against you at trial. You have the right to speak with an attorney—

Sharon Hathaway: I want one. And I want a phone call.

Detective Magee: You'll get both.

Detective Beckwith: —and to have that attorney present during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you at no cost by the State. Do you understand these rights?

Sharon Hathaway: I do. That's why I want a lawyer!

Detective Magee: Get her out of here.
