Jimmy Bragg alibi check
Peers
On Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2020, Deputy Fred Willits and Deputy P.J. Watson interviewed Jimmy Bragg's classmates.
The interviews summarized below are some of the most typical or relevant to the investigation and are representative of all interviews conducted.
Brandon Mack
Age: 17
In an interview with the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department dated Sunday, November 1, 2020, Jimmy Bragg said that on the night of October 29, 2020, he got a phone call at around 11:00 p.m. from his friend Brandon regarding the death of Frederick Miller.
Brandon Mack confirmed that he had called Jimmy that night to say that Mr. Miller had been killed. Brandon said it was a short conversation because Jimmy just kept repeating that he couldn't believe it.
Brandon said he found out about Mr. Miller's death from his mother, who he said was at Faith and Glory doing charity sewing. Brandon said his mother had called home at around 10:30 p.m. to say that she would be even later getting home because the police were talking to everyone who was at the sewing event.
Brandon showed deputies the call log on his cell phone that listed a call made at 11:04 p.m. on October 29 to Jimmy Bragg's cell phone number with a duration of just over one minute.
Pete Peters
Age: 17
Pete said he got a call from Brandon Mack on the night of October 29 around 10:45 p.m. He said Brandon told him about Mr. Miller, and they talked for a few minutes.
Then Brandon said he was going to call their friend Jimmy to tell him, and Pete said he had agreed that Jimmy would want to know.
Bailey Vinson
Age: 17
Bailey said she got a text message from Brandon Mack a little after 11:00 p.m. on October 29, saying he had big news and asking if she was still awake. She said the two of them exchanged text messages for several minutes, during which Brandon told her that Mr. Miller had been killed and that Jimmy Bragg was freaking out.
Bailey said Brandon described his call with Jimmy and told her he was surprised that Jimmy was taking it so hard after Mr. Miller had been so mean to him. Bailey said she told Brandon that Jimmy was probably just weirded out by the fact that someone he knew had died.
Neighbors
On Saturday, November 7, Deputy Fred Willits and Deputy P.J. Watson canvassed the Braggs' neighborhood to see if any of the residents remembered seeing Jimmy on the evening of Thursday, October 29.
No one interviewed recalled seeing Jimmy that evening. The only neighbor who had any observation of potential relevance is summarized below.
Carol Blackman
308 Longest Road
Carol Blackman, the Braggs' next-door neighbor, said it was normal not to see Jimmy when he was at home because he spent most of his time studying.
Mrs. Blackman said she had seen a pizza delivery person turn around in her driveway, park nearly all the way up on her grass, and go to the Braggs' front door shortly after 8:00 p.m.
She said that she remembered because her son always visits her on Thursday evenings, and he was late that day or else he would've read that delivery man the riot act.
