Robin Maxwell moved to Oxford with her husband over 20 years agoRobin Margaret Ross was born on May 13, 1967, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. She is the only daughter of Peck Ross, a retired independent grocer, and Carolyn Ross, a retired bookkeeper.

Robin developed an early love for dance and ballet while in her early teens, as a result of a visiting dance company which performed for two weeks in Bay St. Louis and gave free classes to local students. She attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and majored in dance. She appeared in thirteen dance productions while at Tulane, and graduated in 1988 with a double degree in dance and stage choreography.

Through a mutual choreographer friend, Robin met and fell in love with Todd Maxwell in 1989, who won a gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. His career was later cut short by a series of injuries. They were married on June 5, 1990, in Florence, Alabama.

Robin and Todd were happy, and in the first five years of their marriage, they had three children: Austin, Cameron, and Caitlin. They moved to Oxford, Mississippi, in 1990, where Robin got a job in the dance and theatre department of the University of Mississippi.

Robin enjoys dance, choreography, sewing, and fashion design in her spare time. She is considered the anchor of the Maxwell family and leaves much of the public handling of her famous children to her husband. Robin is content to stay in the background and give advice to her children one-on-one. By all accounts, she is a doting mother who would rather have, in her own words, "happy children who happen to be famous rather than famous children who are unhappy."
