Alibi check – Lizzie Miller #2

From 5:30–9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Deputy Willits and Deputy Watson interviewed people at the Oxford Skate Park.

In a November 1 interview with the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller recanted her prior statement that she was at High Point Coffee on the evening her father was killed. Lizzie claimed that she was actually at the skate park with Marc Huddleston during this time.

Skate park patrons were interviewed to determine whether Lizzie was there between 5:30 and 9:00 p.m. on October 29.

The interviews summarized are some of the most typical or relevant to the investigation and are representative of all interviews conducted.

Cohen

Sarah Cohen
Age: 17

Sarah Cohen said she was at the skate park on October 29 with her 12-year-old sister, Chelsea, who was skateboarding in the main bowl at the park in preparation for the upcoming contest.

When Chelsea finished practicing around 6:30 p.m., the sisters headed home for supper and walked past Lizzie and some other teens who were hanging out. Sarah said she knew Lizzie from when they were on the archery team together, but Sarah had quit archery to dedicate more time to piano playing. Sarah said she and Lizzie exchanged hellos, but that was the extent of their conversation.

Kimball

Mary Kimball
Age: 45

Mary Kimball said she was at the skate park on October 29, watching her 10-year-old son, Forrest, ride his skateboard at the park as a reward for doing well on a test.

Mrs. Kimball said she is friends with Lizzie’s mother, Caroline, so she knows Lizzie too.

Mrs. Kimball remembered seeing Lizzie at the skate park around 7:30 p.m. when she and her son were preparing to leave. She said Lizzie was sitting in the grassy area at the edge of the park with a teenage male. She said a group of other teens was loitering around the same area. They stood out to her because a few of the juveniles were smoking cigarettes. Mrs. Kimball did not observe Lizzie or the boy with her smoking, but she was concerned that Lizzie was possibly hanging out with teenagers who were.

Scott

Jeffrey Scott
Age: 17

Jeffrey Scott is a skateboarder who rides at the local skate park a few times a week. He was there that Thursday evening to practice for an amateur skateboarding contest that was to take place at the park on Saturday, October 31. He said he wanted to avoid the crowds that would be there Friday night.

Jeffrey said he knows Lizzie from the English class they have together at Yoknapatawpha High School. He said he talked to Lizzie for a few minutes that night while resting between practicing his skateboarding tricks. He invited her to watch him practice, but she said her mom was picking her up in a few minutes, and she had to go. Jeffrey recalled that Lizzie wished him good luck on Saturday’s competition.
