Tanya Ryder interview

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 – 9:20 p.m.

Tanya Ryder is a social media influencer and resident of the 24/7 livestream show "Under Glass: The Study of Generation Z in the Real."

Detective Beckwith and Magee interviewed her at the Under Glass house.

Participants:

  • Detective P. Beckwith
  • Detective J. Magee
  • Tanya Ryder

Tanya Ryder: So, hey, I'm gonna run up to my room and change before I talk to you, okay?

Detective Magee: No, not okay. Sit, please, and state your name and address for the record.

Tanya Ryder: Oh, you're the one person who doesn't know.

Detective Magee: What?

Tanya Ryder: I've got 9,891 followers. I've never run across anyone who actually doesn't know who I am, even old people who aren't active on social media.

Detective Magee: Let's start this over, okay? This is not a joke. This is an official investigation. Detective Beckwith and I are sworn officers. This is an official interview with legal requirements, one of which is for the interviewee, which is you, to speak aloud your name and address for the official record. Please do that now.

Tanya Ryder: Fine. Tanya Ryder. I live at this house we're sitting in, and the address is 903 Muirfield Drive. Look, this is… I mean, if Hoyt's really dead, I gotta plan my next move.

Detective Magee: Well, Hoyt's really dead. Now, Detective Beckwith and I will ask you a series of questions. Your answers to these questions will determine our next steps, which will determine your next move. Do you understand?

Tanya Ryder: Yes.

Detective Magee: Are you enrolled in college?

Tanya Ryder: No, I'm a social media influencer.

Detective Beckwith: Social media influencers don't go to college?

Tanya Ryder: This one doesn't. I don't need to. Hoyt takes care of me, and I make money doing my thing.

Detective Magee: In what ways does Hoyt take care of you?

Tanya Ryder: Financially.

Detective Magee: What do you do for him to get that money?

Tanya Ryder: Nothing gross or creepy. I promote his brand on my channels. When the losers are in class, I'm out partying and giving Under Glass exposure.

Detective Beckwith: What kind of exposure?

Tanya Ryder: The kind most men appreciate.

Detective Magee: Which losers?

Tanya Ryder: My roommates. They aren't attractive enough to make a living doing what I do, so they have to go to school to find some kind of career.

Detective Magee: When was the last time you saw Hoyt?

Tanya Ryder: Lunch yesterday. McEwen's. He paid. I had a kale and quinoa salad. We left at 1:30 p.m. I went to Uptown Coffee. I don't know where he went.

Detective Beckwith: What did you talk about?

Tanya Ryder: About me. About ways to promote his channel in my role as an influencer. He was hooking me up.

Detective Beckwith: Hooking you up, how?

Tanya Ryder: Oh, please. Not like that. I'd have to take a cut in pay for sex work. I'm telling you, Hoyt's legit. All business. On the up and up.

Detective Beckwith: What time did you leave the house today?

Tanya Ryder: Around 10:00 this morning, and I went to Uptown Coffee.

Detective Magee: Who else was here when you left?

Tanya Ryder: No idea. I didn't hear anyone, so either they were still sleeping or already gone. I seriously don't pay attention. I'm also legit and all business, and I have to work hard to build my platform.

Detective Magee: How long have you lived at Under Glass?

Tanya Ryder: Since early June 2022. I'm a veteran.

Detective Beckwith: In all that time, have you ever been inside the control shed?

Tanya Ryder: Nope, never. It's strictly off-limits, and besides, the whole image goes against my brand. Toolshed? Really? There's no glamor in that.

Detective Magee: Where were you this afternoon?

Tanya Ryder: Depends on what time.

Detective Beckwith: Let's start with where you were between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Tanya Ryder: I was in a meeting from around 1:45-ish 'til around 3:00-ish, then I got a coffee and sat outside for a while, then I—

Detective Magee: Yeah, okay. We'll need you to be a lot more specific.

Tanya Ryder: Like, you can check my posts. I mean, if you need confirmation.

Detective Beckwith: Oh, we will, but we need you to say it. Like, on the record.

Tanya Ryder: Fine. But don't leak this, please. I'm not ready to announce it yet.

Detective Magee: Okay, sure.

Tanya Ryder: I met with this boutique designer who's going to pay me to wear her clothing line. She's sewing stuff in her garage right now, but she's going viral on my channels. You watch. So, that was, like, 1:45-ish til 3:00-ish.

Detective Magee: Then coffee where?

Tanya Ryder: Uptown Coffee, of course.

Detective Magee: How long were you there?

Tanya Ryder: An hour, maybe?

Detective Beckwith: Anybody with you?

Tanya Ryder: No. Me and my content is enough for my followers.

Detective Magee: You don't need the house anymore? Or the support of Mr. Biffle?

Tanya Ryder: No, I mean, I'm creating my own brand. It works for the house, and it works for me personally. Like, he gets subscribers from my work.

Detective Beckwith: Where'd you go after coffee alone for an hour?

Tanya Ryder: I checked out a couple of locations for future content.

Detective Magee: Where?

Tanya Ryder: Again, this needs to stay here. Like, between us. I met with the manager at the Heirloom Bistro at 4:00 p.m. Made plans to officially visit and give it a live review.

Detective Magee: Is that place open now?

Tanya Ryder: Yes. Three weeks ago. The manager, Étienne, wants me to give the place some exposure, so I'm going to go live at dinner next week. But I have to tease that out on my channels, so please don't say anything outside this room.

Detective Magee: Well, we'll have to check with Étienne.

Detective Beckwith: How long were you at Heirloom Bistro?

Tanya Ryder: A half-hour or so, I guess.

Detective Magee: And then?

Tanya Ryder: Then I walked around scouting locations.

Detective Magee: How long?

Tanya Ryder: About an hour.

Detective Beckwith: And can anyone confirm that?

Tanya Ryder: I don't know. Probably not. Then I came back here.

Detective Beckwith: What time?

Tanya Ryder: Around 5:30 p.m.?

Detective Magee: Are you asking us?

Tanya Ryder: No, I'm not sure of the exact minute, but by 5:30 p.m., I was home

Detective Beckwith: Who else was here when you got home?

Tanya Ryder: Well, of course, our friends from COP were out front giving us publicity. And I saw Jessi and Lacey inside.

Detective Beckwith: Do you know if Hoyt had any enemies?

Tanya Ryder: He pissed a lot of people off, but enemies? Like murdering foes? I… I really can't imagine. It's stupid. Hoyt was a gold mine. He had the entrepreneur's Midas touch.

Detective Magee: Given what you know about Hoyt, who would you suggest we speak to about his death?

Tanya Ryder: Well, jeez, there's the idiot couple, Shiloh and Wyatt. I mean, they did make it clear they were going to do something when they were booted out last month.

Detective Magee: Why do you say that?

Tanya Ryder: Why are they idiots? Textbook biting the hand that feeds you. About doing something? They totally made threats on camera. Well, Wyatt did. Shiloh just scrawled hers with lipstick or something. I don't know exactly because I don't mess with negativity. I've got too much work to do, and that kind of crap doesn't fit into my brand.

Detective Magee: What is your brand?

Tanya Ryder: Well...beauty and brains, of course. All positive. No trashy folks on my feed. Check me out on social media. Be sure to give me a follow.

Detective Beckwith: Okay. That's all for now. Thank you for your time. We'll be in touch if we need anything further. I'm afraid you're going to have to delay your next move until we're through investigating.
