Incident No.: 001985-19D-2020
Case Description: Dalton Kimbrough homicide investigation

Johnny McPhail's wife, Adele, gave Detectives Armstrong and Murphy copies of voicemail messages he left for her during the last several months.

The following is a transcript of the messages Johnny McPhail left his wife during his stay at the lodge.

January 23, 2020, 10:07 a.m.

Johnny McPhail: Hey there, Adele. Hope you're holdin' all my calls. Hollywood ain't called yet, have they? Haha.

Listen, I just wanted to call and let you know everything here is goin' great. My part is so perfect, you're gonna… I just know… well, you're gonna be proud of me, let's just say that. The way Dalton has us playing this, I'm tellin' you, I'm getting good. I'm talking scary good. This is lettin' me be who I really am, who I'm supposed to be.

I wish I could bring you up here and let you watch me in action, but it's crew-only I'm afraid. Please don't worry about me though. I'll be in touch later. Love you, and tell Ruthie I love her too. Bye.

March 11, 2020, 5:19 p.m.

Johnny McPhail: Late happy birthday, darlin'. Sorry, I know I said I'd be home by your birthday, but, well… there's reshoots. All kinds of reshoots and delays. I tell you, this makin' movies is a hard-nosed business.

I know y'all gotta be upset but, really, don't worry. This is my business. They need me up here worse, I think.

What's one birthday without me? Just pretend like I got run over or ran away. Heh-heh. It'll all be over soon. Happy—

March 31, 2020, 11:11 a.m.

Johnny McPhail: Mama… I'm ready to come home. S*** on this! He tied both my hands up for two days! This ain't fixin' to make me a star. It don't make nobody a…. He liked to hanged hisself. What's he tryin' to do, take us all with him?

Don't stay up late for Poppa. Poppa loves you, girl. He sure does.
