Kelly Bradley interview

Wednesday, January 3, 2024 – 2:15 p.m.

Kelly Bradley was reportedly having an affair with Jared Plunk.

Detectives Murphy and Parker spoke with her at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Participants:

  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Detective E. Parker
  • Kelly Bradley

Detective Parker: Ms. Bradley, please state your name and address for the record.

Kelly Bradley: Kelly Bradley, 1559 Jefferson Avenue, Oxford. Is this going to take long? I'm supposed to work at 3:00 p.m.

Detective Parker: Were you acquainted with Jared Plunk?

Kelly Bradley: I knew him, sure. I caught one of his speeches in my history and special events class. He was talking about Elvis's impact on society. It was pretty interesting.

Detective Parker: Can you tell us what your relationship was with Mr. Plunk?

Kelly Bradley: We were friends.

Detective Murphy: We've heard you two were closer than just friends.

Kelly Bradley: You've heard? You mean from that witch he was married to? I'm sure she had plenty to say.

Detective Parker: Do you know Alison Plunk?

Kelly Bradley: Not really. We only met once. She was coming out of the elevator at the YCCC, and I was coming down the stairs. She started swearing, and I know she would've attacked me if the manager hadn't come out. I avoided her after that—pretty scary lady.

Detective Parker: What was she so angry about?

Kelly Bradley: She was jealous. She didn't like it that Jared and I were friends.

Detective Murphy: Ms. Bradley, Jared Plunk was much older than you. Let's get to the point, shall we? Weren't you having an affair with him? Isn't that why Mrs. Plunk was angry with you?

Kelly Bradley: Okay, yeah, I slept with him a few times. So? Age doesn't matter. I'd rather go out with older guys. They're more mature and have much more to offer. Like I said, I only met his wife once.

Detective Parker: We understand your relationship with Mr. Plunk had changed recently. Is that right?

Kelly Bradley: Oh, you mean how he told his wife he wasn't going to see me anymore?

Detective Murphy: How did you feel about that?

Kelly Bradley: I was mad at first, but I knew he wasn't serious about breaking up. Why would he be? His wife is much older than me. I let him think he'd had his way and waited until the conference started to go over there. Of course, by the time I arrived, he was dead. That's what happens when you have to rely on public transportation.

Detective Parker: You took public transportation to the conference?

Kelly Bradley: Yes, the bus. I'm glad I did, though. Except for what happened to Mr. Plunk, it was quite entertaining. Bunch of crazies, actually. I thought some of the customers at the music store were odd, but wow.

Detective Parker: What do you mean?

Kelly Bradley: Well, of course, there were a ton of people in Elvis costumes: men, women. There were probably dogs running around dressed as the King. There was this one guy—later, I heard someone call him Quentin—he just walked the halls crying, muttering about Jared and Elvis.

Detective Murphy: This was before Mr. Plunk was killed?

Kelly Bradley: I didn't get there until after. Remember?

Detective Parker: Were you mad at Jared?

Kelly Bradley: Me? Sometimes, of course. All friends have their little tiffs.

Detective Murphy: Nothing more?

Kelly Bradley: Well, I certainly didn't kill him if that's what you're getting at.

Detective Parker: Who do you think might have?

Kelly Bradley: I didn't really know him that well.

Detective Parker: You were sleeping with him.

Kelly Bradley: We didn't spend much time talking.

Detective Murphy: Okay, I think that about does it for now. Thanks for your time. If we have any more questions, we'll be in touch.
