Rough-looking man with dark hair, mustache and goatee

Joey Beecher interview

Tuesday, August 23, 2022 – 2:30 p.m.

Joey Beecher reportedly confronted his wife, Stacy, and Oscar Knight at The Roadhouse on the Saturday evening before the severed thumb was found in Oscar Knight's hotel room.

Detectives Murphy and Parker interviewed him at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Participants:

  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Detective E. Parker
  • Joey Beecher

Detective Murphy: Thank you for coming in, Mr. Beecher. Please have a seat.

Joey Beecher: Yeah, right. What do you want?

Detective Murphy: First off, we need your name and address for the record. Then we'll get to why you're here.

Joey Beecher: Okay, my name is Joey Beecher, and I still live at 1172 Magnolia. You already know this.

Detective Parker: Mr. Beecher, can you tell us anything about a man named Oscar Knight?

Joey Beecher: No. Who's that?

Detective Parker: Here's a photo of him. Do you recognize him?

Joey Beecher: Oh, yeah, I remember that clown. Never knew his name.

Detective Murphy: How do you know him?

Joey Beecher: I got off work late and went over to The Roadhouse on Saturday. When I walked in, I saw him sitting there with his arm around my wife. I started to let him have it, but he turned tail and left.

Detective Parker: We heard that wasn't the first time you've caught your wife with other men? Doesn't it drive you crazy?

Joey Beecher: Guys are always hitting on Stacy. She's a beautiful woman. I don't like other men hanging all over her, but I know Stacy wouldn't cheat on me. We have a good marriage.

Detective Parker: We have witnesses who told us you had some kind of dispute with Oscar Knight at The Roadhouse. Did you threaten Mr. Knight?

Joey Beecher: Hell, yeah, I did. I wanted to punch his lights out, but I restrained myself. I told him he'd better stay away from my wife or else.

Detective Parker: Or else what?

Joey Beecher: Or else I'd show him why it was a bad idea to hit on another man's wife.

Detective Parker: Is that why you followed Oscar Knight after you left The Roadhouse? To show him why he should stay away from your wife?

Joey Beecher: I never touched a hair on his head, and I never saw that weasel after he left the bar.

Detective Murphy: So what happened after he left? Did you and your wife kiss and make up?

Joey Beecher: I tried to get her to go home with me, but she said she wasn't leaving. She stormed off to the bathroom, so I left.

Detective Murphy: You just left? You weren't worried about what she might do without you there?

Joey Beecher: What am I supposed to do? Beat up every man I see her with? I love Stacy, but she drives me crazy the way she's been acting lately.

Detective Murphy: Where did you go when you left The Roadhouse?

Joey Beecher: I went to see my buddy from work at his house to talk. I do that sometimes when Stacy and I have a fight. He and his girlfriend are good people, and they always calm me down.

Detective Murphy: What's your friend's name?

Joey Beecher: Miguel Ochoa. He lives in Abbeville.

Detective Parker: What time did you get there?

Joey Beecher: I don't know. I left The Roadhouse around 10:00 p.m., so maybe 10:15 p.m.?

Detective Parker: How long did you stay?

Joey Beecher: Couple of hours?

Detective Murphy: Where did you go when you left?

Joey Beecher: Home. I thought Stacy might be home by then.

Detective Murphy: Was she?

Joey Beecher: No. She rolled in a few minutes later.

Detective Murphy: What time was that?

Joey Beecher: Around 1:00 a.m.

Detective Parker: Did Stacy tell you what she did after you left The Roadhouse?

Joey Beecher: All she'd say was that she was with her friends. If you want to know the answer to that question, you'll have to ask her yourself.

Detective Murphy: Thanks for your time, Mr. Beecher. We'll be in touch if we have any more questions.

Interview ended – 2:57 p.m.
