  • Detective J. Magee
  • Heath Rushing

Detective Beckwith: Mr. Rushing, please have a seat here.

Heath Rushing: Where? There, okay.

Detective Magee: How are you doing, young man? You seem a bit out of it.

Heath Rushing: I'm okay now. I wasn't okay then. But I'm okay, okay?

Detective Magee: All right, tell us what drug you've taken.

Heath Rushing: Who are y'all?

Detective Magee: We are Yoknapatawpha County detectives.

Heath Rushing: What are you doing here?

Detective Beckwith: We are investigating the death of—

Heath Rushing: Y'all aren't even real. I'm just talking to myself. Yeah.

Detective Magee: We're very real, Mr. Rushing.

Heath Rushing: If y'all are real, hold up three fingers. Okay, y'all held up four. Oh, see, you're fake.

Detective Beckwith: No, no, don't stand up.

Heath Rushing: You have a little head. Like, little.

Detective Beckwith: Mr. Rushing, we cannot help you unless we know what drug you have taken.

Heath Rushing: There was two mushrooms I ate. Two of the really big ones.

Detective Magee: You took magic mushrooms?

Heath Rushing: I ate them.

Detective Beckwith: When did you take them?

Heath Rushing: I didn't take them anywhere. I just ate them.

Detective Magee: Did you eat them before the play today?

Heath Rushing: Yeah.

Detective Beckwith: What do you remember about the play?

Heath Rushing: There were monsters in it.

Detective Beckwith: Monsters?

Heath Rushing: Yeah. Monsters. I got locked in a box. Then I got out. Am I okay?

Detective Magee: You're okay. How did you get out of the box?

Heath Rushing: I got out of the box.

Detective Beckwith: What box?

Heath Rushing: I don't know. I got out of it.

Detective Beckwith: Did a wall of the box fall down?

Heath Rushing: I just walked out of it.

Detective Magee: Did someone lock you in the box?

Heath Rushing: Something bad happened … I want to lay down. Like on the ground.

Detective Magee: Try to focus, Mr. Rushing. What bad thing happened?

Heath Rushing: I don't know. I had an arm.

Detective Beckwith: Whose arm?

Heath Rushing: A monster's arm. I had a monster's arm with me.

Detective Beckwith: In the box?

Heath Rushing: I got out of the box.

Detective Magee: We've established that.

Heath Rushing: I'm laying down now. Nighty-night, fake cops.

Detective Beckwith: Mr. Rushing, you can lie down after we're done asking you questions.

Heath Rushing: Maybe you can ask them while I'm down here.

Detective Magee: Mr. Rushing.

Heath Rushing: You know, it's pretty hot down here.

Detective Beckwith: All right, Mr. Rushing, off the floor. There. Here's your chair.

Detective Magee: Now, try to focus. Do you remember who was with you during the play?

Heath Rushing: Janet and some monsters … I don't know.

Detective Magee: By monsters, do you mean actors dressed like zombies?

Heath Rushing: Yeah, they were monster zombies.

Detective Magee: Who is Janet?

Heath Rushing: You know, just Janet … Janet.

Detective Beckwith: Why did you have an arm?

Heath Rushing: Because it broke off a monster zombie.

Detective Magee: What did you do with it?

Heath Rushing: I gave it to Janet.

Detective Beckwith: What did Janet do with it?

Heath Rushing: I don't know. She wanted it. I should go back down on the floor.

Detective Magee: No, you really shouldn't. Did you see Scott Bryant today at any time?

Heath Rushing: No. I didn't see him. Woody said he needed help.

Detective Magee: He's dead.

Heath Rushing: The zombie monsters got him!

Detective Beckwith: No, that's not—

Heath Rushing: The zombie monsters got him. They got him. We gotta get out of here!

Detective Beckwith: Calm down—

Heath Rushing: We gotta go! We gotta go!

Detective Magee: Mr. Rushing?

Heath Rushing: [Inaudible] can go out the back door.

Detective Magee: We're going to need medical. Mr. Rushing, calm down.

Detective Beckwith: I'll call it in.
