 REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)

At 1:30 p.m., Ed Harbison (Person 1) voluntarily came to the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department for a scheduled interview with Reporting Investigators (R/Is) Detectives T. Armstrong and S. Murphy. The interview commenced at 1:34 p.m.

The defendant was advised of his rights and agreed to waive those rights and talk with R/Is.

R/Is questioned the defendant about inconsistencies in his previous statements and about evidence implicating the defendant in the Jerry Shaw homicide. During the course of the interview, the defendant voluntarily confessed to causing the death of Jerry Shaw and provided a verbal account of his actions that day. (See interview transcript.)

Following the confession, R/Is placed the defendant under arrest. At 2:27 p.m., R/Is turned the defendant over to Sheriff’s Department personnel for processing. At all times while in custody, the defendant appeared lucid and coherent. The defendant was cooperative and seemed to comprehend what was happening to him.

After being taken into custody, the defendant made no further statements. The defendant cooperated physically and did not resist in any way.
