This is the transcript of a 911 call received by Yoknapatawpha County Emergency Services at 12:16 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020.

Dispatcher: 911. What is your emergency?

Caller: I've been ******* fixed! He did it! He's here! He ******* fixed me.

Dispatcher: Slow down, sir. Tell me what happened. Has anyone harmed you?

Caller: Yeah! Not yet, but Dr. Yah Yah has put about a million hexes on me! He's here, and he's trying to kill me. The man is a witch doctor, and he's a known killer! He put an egg in my tree and spiders in my pillow, dammit!

Dispatcher: Sir, are you at 126 County Road 432 in Yocona?

Caller: Yes, yes that's me.

Dispatcher: Is your life in danger right now?

Caller: Yes, dammit! Why do you think I'm calling you?

Dispatcher: We're sending a unit out there right now. Will you hold the line?

Caller: I can't hold the line! ****, he's probably listening in. He's liable to be up the pole listening. He's gonna kill me. He works like slow poison. Please, get somebody!

Dispatcher: What's your name?

Caller: Ah… Forrest Burgess.

Dispatcher: Tell me again what he did, sir. Is he there right now?

Caller: I can't see him, but I know he's here.

Dispatcher: What did he do?

Caller: He put an egg in my tree! It's a fix!

Dispatcher: Sir, has he physically threatened you?

Caller: What do you call that?

Dispatcher: Yes, but an egg….

Caller: It's a classic hex! He's trying to kill me. I'll be dead by tomorrow Holy ****! I've done nothing wrong! I didn't kill Laurie Daniels!

Dispatcher: Sir, what happened?

Caller: Look, I shouldn't have… I shouldn't have called. Cancel that. I'll just—

Dispatcher: Sir, please hold the line. You don't have to talk. Just hold on.

Caller: Oh God, I can't.

I'm confusing myself now. I can't decide whether Dr. Yah Yah put that egg hex in the tree because Forrest killed Laurie or whether Forrest put it there to try to get the police off his tail because he killed Laurie. I'm totally puzzled right now.

Just some crude thoughts at the moment, which may shed some light on things.

Yah Yah could have a strong motive to get rid off Laurie. She may have seen or heard something during her stay which could bring him down. That said, I doubt Doc Yah Yah would take the trouble to do some superficial rituali(alone?) n the unknown countryside, then kill Laurie, dismember her, spread her about in a quick drive through in unknown territory and again return days later to her former loverboy Forrest to put a hex on him as if to suggest he is the culprit or to intimidate him. Someone as cunning as Yah Yah and his minions would have surely had Laurie kidnapped instead, taken some place completely different and made her "disappear" probably knowing her background story. Why would anyone care about drugged out Laurie who was into Voodoo and traveleld a lot and then go looking for her if you catch my drift...

I rather get the impression all this vodoo stuff going on is to divert attention from the real criminal and was done by a local. You don't do a hex/ritual with a (dead!) chicken and then simply murder the victim you just cast a spell on. You certainly would have needed to recon the surrounding area to spread her body parts around.(That her arm was found dangling in the weeds speaks against a planned ritual placing (as someone had suggested)) You don't leave the head of your vicitm near some other supsicious person, talking care to preserve it in a bucket. You don't return to the town days later to put a hex on her lover. Nah, this really is starting to look bad for Forrest. This event makes him rather suspicious, I think. This "It's a classic hex! He's trying to kill me. I'll be dead by tomorrow Holy ****! I've done nothing wrong! I didn't kill Laurie Daniels!" reads more like a weak attempt to feign innocence and to implicate Doc Yah Yah.The only other suspect now in my opinion is Callie, who also seems to know too much Voodoo.for her own good. I'll be keeping a close(r) eye on these two suspects from now on.

Laurie's parents may also have a strong motive to keep the sinister family history secret but their knowledge of voodoo would be superficial at best. Same goes for Strong brothers. That burnt crate with rope handles that was found with a stamp in it suggests to me it was one or two persons who carried the ritual stuff to the "witching ground", possibly even with Laurie's head in it before the crate was thrown on the fire. But all this emphasis on Voodoo in such a detailed fashion is too good to be true...

After rereading the info we have on Yah Yah, I'm even more doubtful. The only sources for this nasty man's existence is sketchy at best and it is only Forrest and Callie's word for it. That occult magazine article looks more like he likes the limemight instead of shunning it. It looks to me as if the Dr. Evil Yah Yah is a figment of imagination, indeed a spook, a non-existent villian. There is nothing official here...

Now with newer info I still don't know who put the egg there. Forrest probably did but he sounds so sincere. Maybe YahYah is around. There have been a lot of phone calls to that New Orleans number. YahYah hasn't been seen. He and Laurie had some kind of weird thing going on. A hex on Forrest was found at his apartment. I have a hard time counting him out just yet.
