Case Description: Monica Drum homicide investigation

Investigators have compiled the following summary of the witness alibis for the night of Saturday, June 15, 2024, and the early morning hours of Sunday, June 16, 2024, when Monica Drum was shot to death. Also included is information on the results of attempts to verify the alibis.

Description: Eagle janitor; one of the last people to see the victim alive

Alibi: Driving home from work; left the Eagle around 3:00 a.m.

Description: Victim's friend; local artist and UM graduate student

Alibi: Attended Ole Miss football game and post-game celebrations; at her apartment with friends afterward

Confirmed? Yes

Older man with short dark hair

Description: US congressman; allegedly blackmailed by the victim; currently facing gambling charges

Alibi: In Washington, D.C.

Confirmed? Yes

Middle-aged woman with a salt-and-pepper bob hairstyle

Description: Edward Hagen's wife

Alibi: In Washington, D.C.

Confirmed? Yes

Man with close-cropped dark hair

Description: Victim's sometime boyfriend, Eagle reporter

Alibi: Drinking at home

Unsmiling man with shaved head and close-shaved mustache and goatee

Description: Former Eagle pressman; not currently employed; currently lives in New Sarpy, LA

Alibi: Fishing

Description: David Ledford's wife; employed as an LPN at the New Orleans VA Medical Center; currently lives in New Sarpy, LA

Description: Former accounting clerk at the Eagle; currently employed as a sales assistant at Lily Pad

Alibi: At home.

Description: Eagle security guard; one of the last people to see the victim alive

Confirmed? No

Balding man in his mid-40s wearing a tweed blazer and a bow tie

Description: Eagle publisher and the victim's employer

Description: Melvin Roberts's wife; owns and runs a convenience store in Oxford with her husband; currently lives in Oxford

Alibi: Asleep at home.

Confirmed? No

Older man with white hair, mustache and beard

Description: Falsely confessed to Drum's murder; former rape suspect; victim wrote several articles about his case; owns and runs a convenience store in Oxford with his wife

Alibi: At Denny's in Enid, MS

Confirmed? Yes

Unsmiling man with short dark hair

Description: Eagle sports editor; previously worked with the victim at Cincinnati Enquirer

Alibi: Left the Eagle at 10:45 p.m., bar-hopping, then home

Confirmed? No

Smiling woman with glasses and shoulder-length dark hair

Description: Victim's lifelong friend; executor of victim's will; lives in Soap Lake, WA.
