Police tape across a hallway at the Yoknapatawpha County Convention Center

YOKNAPATAWPHA COUNTY • CASE #004048

ALL STABBED UP

Who murdered the Elvis Presley expert?

★ WELCOME, FAITHFUL ★

You followed the sign from the little chapel on the highway. Good. The congregation at elvisfaithful.com asks what Elvis would do — here, we ask what the killer did. One of the King’s own scholars is dead, your pastor answered questions twice, and the case file is nearly ready for your eyes. Come as you are; bring your doubts and your magnifying glass.

What Happened

Elvis expert Jared Plunk murdered

Just after 6:00 a.m., Yoknapatawpha Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a body in a hallway at the Yoknapatawpha County Convention Center. The dead man was Jared Plunk — Elvis Presley expert, author, and the keynote speaker scheduled to take the stage at the Elvis conference later that same day.

He never made his call time. Detectives Murphy and Parker examined the scene, spoke with the accommodation manager who found the body, with Jared’s wife, and with the conference organizer — and that was only the first morning.

The Faithful Were There

The conference drew everyone who loves the King — scholars, tribute artists, collectors, and yes, the Elvis Faithful. Before it was over, the detectives had questioned the leader of the Elvis Faithful about his interactions with the victim. Then they questioned him again.

The congregation wishes it known: their pastor answered every question, both times, and considers it a ministry. An Elvis tribute artist who performed at the conference sat with the detectives as well — twice, for the record. Whether devotion is an alibi is a question for the case files.

Ten Days of Questions

DAYS 1–2 The 911 call, the crime scene, the widow, the organizer — and the woman Jared replaced as keynote speaker on short notice.
DAYS 3–5 The pastor. The tribute artist. A former business partner with an acrimonious history. A man seen loitering. A waiter who claimed to know something. Then the forensics and the autopsy reports arrived.
DAYS 6–8 Search warrants at three residences. What the detectives carried out of those houses changed the shape of the case.
DAYS 9–10 Every alibi checked. The crime lab’s comparison report. One final interview — and an arrest. Who? The case files do not spoil, and neither do we.

The case file is still sealed.

The Plunk investigation is not open to the public yet — the detectives get first crack at it. When the doors open, the Faithful will be the first to know. Until then, other killers are already waiting to be caught: interviews, evidence photos, and alibis for every open case at Crime Scene.

★ FOR THOSE WHO KEEP THE VIGIL ★

Solving is hungry work. The Gospel Slam is on the congregation’s Recipes page, the Sermons will steady your hands before you read the autopsy report, and the pews are open Sunday at 10:47 AM — seven minutes past the hour, as the Faithful do not explain.
