Tuesday, December 2 – 1:08 p.m.
Amber Sullivan is married to Danny Sullivan, who worked with Caroline Jordan.
Detectives Armstrong and Murphy spoke with her at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.
Participants:
- Detective T. Armstrong
- Detective S. Murphy
- Amber Sullivan
Detective Murphy: Thank you for coming in, Mrs. Sullivan. Have a seat right there.
Amber Sullivan: Is this going to take long? I'm on my lunch break.
Detective Murphy: No, hopefully, we won't take up too much of your time. Would you state your name and address for the record so we can get started?
Amber Sullivan: Amber Sullivan. 44 County Road 3151.
Detective Armstrong: Your husband is Danny Sullivan, correct?
Amber Sullivan: That's right.
Detective Armstrong: Interesting guy.
Amber Sullivan: I think so.
Detective Armstrong: His job is very different from yours.
Amber Sullivan: Yes, it is.
Detective Armstrong: That must give you two a lot to talk about, swapping stories about work.
Amber Sullivan: I guess so. What is this about? I don't have much time, and the police can't possibly be interested in my marriage, so what do you want to know?
Detective Armstrong: Are you aware that one of Danny's co-workers was murdered?
Amber Sullivan: Yes.
Detective Armstrong: It's about that.
Amber Sullivan: Okay. What about it? I don't know anything about that.
Detective Murphy: Did you know Carly Jordan?
Amber Sullivan: No.
Detective Murphy: Did Danny ever talk about her?
Amber Sullivan: It's possible. To be honest, I don't really listen when he complains about work. If he doesn't like it, he could just quit, so I don't know why he wastes time complaining.
Detective Murphy: Does he complain about work a lot?
Amber Sullivan: It seems like it, but probably no more or less than any other person in a job like that.
Detective Murphy: What does he complain about?
Amber Sullivan: Oh, I don't know—his co-workers, his boss, the hours, whatever. I told you. I don't really pay attention.
Detective Armstrong: It must be a great comfort to him to have such a sympathetic wife.
Amber Sullivan: When it comes to his job, he gets all the sympathy he could want and then some from his buddies. He doesn't need that from me.
Detective Armstrong: I see. Did he ever complain about Carly Jordan?
Amber Sullivan: Not that I recall.
Detective Armstrong: Are you aware that he went to a party at her house the night she was killed?
Amber Sullivan: Yes.
Detective Armstrong: Did he talk to you at all about the party, either before he went or after?
Amber Sullivan: He told me he was going because his boss made it clear that everyone should be there.
Detective Armstrong: Who is his boss?
Amber Sullivan: Morgan … something?
Detective Armstrong: Did he tell you anything about the party afterward?
Amber Sullivan: Not really.
Detective Armstrong: Not really?
Amber Sullivan: Well, I was asleep when he got home that night, so we didn't talk about it then. And by the next day, it was kind of all about that girl getting killed and not what happened at the party. So I guess he never really told me about it.
Detective Murphy: You didn't ask?
Amber Sullivan: Why would I?
Detective Murphy: Because he was at a party where someone was killed.
Amber Sullivan: It's not like she was killed during the party. It was after everyone left, wasn't it?
Detective Murphy: What makes you say that?
Amber Sullivan: Because I read the news, and it didn't say anything about there being a bunch of people there when they found her dead, so it must have happened after everyone left.
Detective Murphy: I see. You aren't concerned about Danny's possible involvement?
Amber Sullivan: Involvement in what? He didn't kill her.
Detective Armstrong: You're sure about that?
Amber Sullivan: Of course, I am.
Detective Armstrong: I know you said you were asleep when he got home that night, but do you have any idea what time he got there?
Amber Sullivan: I think it was around 1:00 a.m. His beer breath woke me up, and I made him go brush his teeth.
Detective Murphy: Do you know where he was between the time the party broke up and when he got home?
Amber Sullivan: Out drinking somewhere with his friends, I assume.
Detective Murphy: You didn't ask?
Amber Sullivan: Detective, I'm very busy. I have a full-time job and a young son. I only have so much time to spend with my husband, and I don't like to waste it talking about his friends or his partying.
Detective Murphy: I see.
Amber Sullivan: Is there anything else? I still need to get something to eat before my lunch break is over.
Detective Murphy: No, that's all for now. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us today. We'll be in touch if we have any more questions.
Amber Sullivan: Okay. If you do need to talk to me again, could you try to do it on my day off?
Detective Murphy: Sure.
