REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)

R/O was dispatched to the scene at 10:04 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting a man in possession of a human hand at Duffy's Bar & Grill.

Upon arrival at 10:10 p.m., R/O entered the establishment and was met by an adult male who identified himself as Patrick Mulvaney, the complainant.

Mulvaney said a female customer had notified him that an adult white male patron was in possession of a container he claimed contained a human hand and was displaying same to other patrons. The female customer pointed out an adult male identified as John Reagle to Mulvaney.

Mulvaney said he asked Reagle to show him the container and, after seeing it, decided to notify authorities.

Mulvaney noted Reagle had been at the establishment for several hours and had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages. Mulvaney directed R/O to Reagle's location at a booth near the street-facing windows.

R/O observed Reagle had in his possession a plastic storage container. R/O approached Reagle and requested that he accompany R/O outside the establishment. R/O also requested Reagle bring the container. Reagle complied.

On the sidewalk outside the establishment, R/O noted Reagle had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and appeared to be intoxicated.

R/O asked Reagle to identify the contents of the container. Reagle said it was the hand of his former girlfriend, Lisa Holman. R/O requested permission to examine the container. Reagle agreed and turned the container over to R/O.

R/O conducted an external examination of the container and determined the contents appeared to be a human hand, severed at the wrist. R/O opened the container to conduct an internal examination. The odor emanating from the container was strong and unpleasant. R/O replaced the lid on the container and terminated the examination.

R/O advised Reagle of his rights and placed him under arrest. R/O transported Reagle to the Yoknapatawpha County Detention Center for processing.

DEFENDANT'S VERSION/REMARKS(What did the defendant say?)

Prior to arrest, Reagle said the item in the plastic container was the hand of his ex-girlfriend, Lisa Holman.

During transport to the jail subsequent to arrest, Reagle claimed it was just a joke and the item in the plastic container was really only a strange root he had found on his farm.

Reagle made no further remarks regarding the offenses he is charged with during the time he was in R/O's presence and/or custody.

  • Can't wait to get crackin' on this one! Very interesting.. Theres a danish saying (surely theres one similar in other languages) that "You learn the truth from children and drunk people." - with that said, he might have thought it to have been a root at first when he picked it up, maybe he had even been drinking before he went to Duffy's. I'm thinking he must've found it buried somewhere on his ground, and then wanting to have some fun in a local setting, joking that it was the hand of his ex. Wether it belonged to a man of a woman, I find it hard to tell from the state of it just by looks...

  • There's a typo on Patrick's info, it says that he was born in 1969 and he's 25

  • If Reagle explained the item as a "root," not only is he intoxicated, he can't see well, either. We need to know where his farm is and exactly where he "found on his farm."

  • Is he insane?...I don't think so anyone's that uses clues and don't talk straight have an underlining meaning which makes them seem mad I'll continue reading before I can have more of an opinion ...!
