On Sunday, September 25, 2011, Deputy P.J. Watson and Officer Maria Richards canvassed Kimberly Pace's neighborhood on Jackson Avenue. The neighbors were questioned about anything they might have seen during the likely time of the murder – the night of September 24, 2011 or the early morning hours of September 25, 2011 – or any other time leading up to the murder. The interviews summarized are some of the most typical or relevant to the investigation and are representative of all interviews conducted.

Name: Serena Falk
Address
: Jackson Arms Apartments, Unit #1, Jackson Avenue

Ms. Falk reported she had borrowed some decorating books from Kimberly Pace a few days prior to the murder. Ms. Falk said that, when she saw Dr. Pace arrive home at approximately 9:30 p.m. on September 24, 2011, she went over to Dr. Pace's residence to return the books. Ms. Falk said she arrived at Dr. Pace's residence at approximately 9:40 p.m. and gave the books to Dr. Pace. Ms. Falk reported that Dr. Pace seemed distracted and hurriedly took the books and thanked her, then closed the door. Ms. Falk speculated Dr. Pace might have been upset or worried about something, that perhaps she had someone there in the house or on the phone that she had to get back to. Ms. Falk said she thought she would talk to Dr. Pace the next day.

When asked if she saw anything or anyone suspicious the night of September 24, 2011, Ms. Falk said she did not. She did report that she saw a boy on a bike the next morning, September 25, 2011, but she could not identify the boy.

Name: Linda Alden
Address: 1591 Jackson Avenue

Mrs. Alden said she is a widow and lives alone. She stated that she is given to bouts of insomnia and is often awake during the early hours of the morning. She said she is also a participant in the Neighborhood Watch program set up in this area and so is accustomed to keeping an eye on things.

Mrs. Alden reported that she saw Kimberly Pace arrive home at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011. She saw Dr. Pace pull her car into her driveway and go directly into her house. She reported that she did not see Dr. Pace exit her house again that evening.

Later that night, sometime around 11:00 p.m., Mrs. Alden reported that she heard a loud motorcycle engine. When she went to the window, she stated she saw a young man she believed to be the victim's estranged boyfriend sitting in front the Pace residence and watching the house. After several minutes, the man sped away.

Mrs. Alden stated that, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, September 25, 2011, she saw the victim's sister and two friends arrive and let themselves into the Pace residence. Within the next approximately 20-25 minutes, Mrs. Alden said she saw two marked police cars, an Animal Control van, and other official-looking vehicles arrive at the Pace residence and she knew something horrible had happened.

Mrs. Alden also noted that, on several occasions prior to the murder, she had seen a young man, one she does not know by name, who seemed to be peering in windows at Dr. Pace's home. On one occasion, she stated she called the police about the young man but, by the time they arrived, he was gone.

When asked, Mrs. Alden said she did see a boy riding his bike the morning of Sunday, September 25, 2011. She identified the boy as Jacob Hunter, the son of attorney Patricia Hunter, who works at the law office next door to Mrs. Alden's home. She stated that the boy often accompanied his mother to work on weekends and rode his bike while he waited for her.

Name: George Kim
Address: 1588 Jackson Avenue

Mr. Kim said he noticed nothing really unusual. He stated he did notice Arthur Beck, neighbor of the victim, out in his backyard at approximately 9:00 p.m. He said that Mr. Beck's floodlights were on and he could occasionally hear the clang of a hoe or shovel. Mr. Kim said that was not unusual for Mr. Beck to garden after dark, as Mr. Beck seems obsessed by his gardening and has been known to garden late into the night since the installation of the floodlights.

Mr. Kim said he believed he saw Kimberly Pace's car parked in her drive at approximately 10:00 p.m., but did not recall seeing or hearing Dr. Pace arrive at or leave her residence. When asked, Mr. Kim stated he did not think Mr. Beck was still gardening at the time Mr. Kim noticed Dr. Pace's car.

Mr. Kim stated he was not feeling well the night of September 24, 2011, and took a double dosage of Nyquil® that night. He said he heard what had happened to Kimberly Pace through other neighbors the next morning.

Name: Gina Taylor
Address: 1586 Jackson Avenue

Ms. Taylor stated she did not notice any unusual activity on the night of September 24, 2011. However she did notice that Kimberly Pace did not take her usual early morning walk with her dog, Thoreau, the following day at approximately 7:00 a.m., which Ms. Taylor sometimes joined her in. She said Dr. Pace's car was parked in her driveway, so Ms. Taylor was sure she was home. Ms. Taylor stated she also noticed that the morning paper was still on the porch and had not been taken in. Ms. Taylor reported that she knocked on Dr. Pace's door to see if she was coming out but there was no answer. When Dr. Pace did not answer her door, Ms. Taylor said she assumed she was sleeping in or had company, and decided not to bother her any further.

Ms. Taylor said she did not recall hearing anything of note the night of September 24, 2011, but stated she is a very sound sleeper and is not often awakened in the night by anything.

Name: Teddy Bates
Address
: Jackson Arms Apartments, Unit #2 Jackson Avenue

Mr. Bates said he is a bartender and returned home from work at approximately 12:30 a.m. He stated that he noticed lights on in Kimberly Pace's residence. Mr. Bates said he thought that was unusual because, even though Dr. Pace was known to stay up pretty late on occasion, she rarely had lights on at that hour. Mr. Bates stated he saw no other unusual activity at the house or in the neighborhood at that time or any time previous.

Why are two different witnesses using the name Walsh in their statements when referencing Dr. Pace & her residence (Serena Falk and Linda Alden) or am I missing something here? The information we've been given says Dr. Pace owned her home so why would Linda Alden say "...she saw the victim's sister and two friends arrive and let themselves into the Walsh residence." We don't have knowledge that Dr. Pace had been previously married to a Walsh, which would explain the name, and then divorced, where she would have changed her name back to Pace.

September 24th 2011Seen Kimberly arrive home at 9;35 Pm and seen Dr Pace drive Kimberly’s car into the driveway and enter the house though did not see him leave that evening. Mrs. Alden reported a loud motorcycle engine in the front of Kimberly Pace residents, at 11:00 Pm the 24th believed to be Kimberly’s Estranged Boy friend

This is stating that there is no knowledge of eth estranged boyfriend on motorcycle entering the house appearing as though Dr Pace was the only other individula in teh house between 9:35 and 11:00 o’clock the following morning

unless the motorcycle rider had his bike stashed out front and was hiding in the basement though were is Dr Pace during these events

I believe Jacob Hunter the biker needs to be asked about what he was doing near Dr. Pace's residence or may be what took his attention to stop by.

Was someone in Kimberly's house when she got home? Did she know them? Was she under duress and could not leave when her neighbor came by to return the books or did she not feel threatened by the person in her home? If there was someone in Kimberly's home, were they looking for or blackmailing her over information in her briefcase?

Ex boyfriend possibly at Kimberly's home approximately at the time of death? Why was he there? How long was he there?

Who has been looking in Kimberly's windows and why?

Lights on in Kimberly's house at 12:30 AM? Does the bartender have a personal relationship with Kimberly or wish he did? Does he have a reason to lie about the lights?

Maybe a student who was under the impression that Kimberly was selling grades (at this point we do not know one way or the other). But lets assume she is not and this student comes to her to try and buy a grade and when Pace says noway and is going to report the student for trying to buy a grade the student becomes enraged and throws her down the basement steps.

Just re-read Linda Alden's statement which was made on Sunday 25th - the day of the discovery of Kimberley's body. As neighbourhood watch she's probably fairly accurate in terms of times, and details.

But this interview also illustrates that from a fairly early stage, she would have been aware of the death of Kimberley, but perhaps not whether it was a murder...ask the detective, I think?

I also noticed that on the illustration of the neighbourhood map, there is a square in the back yard of Arthur Beck's place. Probably just a garden shed... for storing tools.... like shovels, hoes, wheelbarrows, lost shoes???

Hopefully, the Detectives will get to explore when they visit his garden.
