  Evidence: Forensic Analysis Results

Case Description: Devlin Beauchamp Homicide

Preliminary forensic analysis has been performed on items recently taken into evidence. In addition, further analysis has been performed on the bat taken into evidence from Home Plate, on which previous Luminol tests revealed traces of blood. The Crime Lab transmitted the following results to the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department on Monday, February 28, 2000.


Comparison of Dixon carpet samples to fibers found at the crime scene

Analysis performed:

Carpet samples taken from the Dixon residence (Ev. #s 000487-268, 000487-269) were compared with fibers found at the Beauchamp murder crime scene.

Results:

The following fibers found at the crime scene were consistent with the samples 000487-268 and 000487-269: 000487-F011, 000487-F012, 000487-F016, 000487-F062, 000487-F074, 000487-F075, 000487-F095, 000487-F135, 000487-F136, and 000487-F161.

 

Comparison of clothing taken from the Dixon residence to fibers found at the crime scene

Analysis performed:

Samples fibers from clothing items taken into evidence from the Dixon residence (Ev. #s 000487-261 through 000487-264, 000487-270) were compared with fibers found at the Beauchamp murder crime scene.

Results:

The following fibers found at the crime scene were consistent with the sample 000487-270: 000487-F007, 000487-F025, 000487-F026, 000487-F098, 000487-F130, and 000487-F160.

No fibers found at the crime scene were consistent with samples taken from 000487-261 through 000487-264.

 

Comparison of clothing taken from the Rodale residence to fibers found at the crime scene

Analysis performed:

Samples fibers from clothing items taken into evidence from the Rodale residence (Ev. # 000487-218) were compared with fibers found at the Beauchamp murder crime scene.

Results:

No fibers found at the crime scene were consistent with samples taken from 000487-218.

 

Analysis of stain on men's white shirt taken from the Dixon residence

Analysis performed:

The stain observed on the long-sleeved men's white cotton shirt (Ev. # 000487-270) taken into evidence from the laundry room at the Dixon residence was analyzed to determine its components.

Results:

The stain is consistent with barbecue sauce served at the Home Plate restaurant.*

* At the request of Carl Dixon and the Home Plate attorney, we have agreed not to publish the ingredients of the Home Plate barbecue sauce.

 

Analysis of stain on men's dress shirt taken from the Rodale residence

Analysis performed:

The stain observed on the Perry Ellis brand men's button down dress shirt (Ev. # 000487-218) taken into evidence from the master bedroom at the Rodale residence was analyzed to determine its components.

Results:

The stain is human blood, type O positive, consistent with Jordan Rodale.

 

Analysis of baseball bats taken from the Dixon residence

Analysis performed:

The three baseball bats (Ev. #s 000487-265 through 000487-267) taken into evidence from Katherine Dixon's bedroom at the Dixon residence were analyzed for traces of human blood, hair or tissue.

Results:

Nothing found.

 

Further analysis of baseball bat taken from Home Plate

Analysis performed:

The two baseball bats (Ev. #s 000487-205 and 000487-206) taken into evidence from the upper shelf under the bar at Home Plate were previously analyzed for traces of human blood, hair or tissue. Luminol tests revealed one of the bats (Ev. # 000487-206) had traces of blood. A sample of that blood was further analyzed for type.

Results:

The blood is human, type B positive, consistent with the victim - Devlin Beauchamp.
