Mark Jordan, Ole Miss employeeMark Jordan lives in Abbeville, Mississippi, and works as a heavy equipment operator for the University of Mississippi. He boarded the 3:30 a.m. Magnolia Transit bus to the Memphis airport on Friday, January 3, 2014, to catch a flight to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to visit his brother. Detectives Armstrong and Murphy interviewed him at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department. The interview was recorded with the witness's knowledge and consent.

Participants:

  • Detective T. Armstrong
  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Mark Jordan

Detective Armstrong: Mr. Jordan, please state your name and address for the record.

Mark Jordan: My name is Mark Kenneth Jordan, and I live at 918 Jefferson Avenue in Abbeville. I work for the University of Mississippi.

Detective Armstrong: Mr. Jordan, you were on the Memphis airport shuttle bus on Friday, January 3. 2014, is that correct?

Mark Jordan: That is correct. I was catching a plane to North Carolina to visit my brother for the weekend.

Detective Armstrong: Did you see anyone else at the Eastgate Shopping Center stop in Oxford that morning?

Mark Jordan: No. I think I would have remembered those skaters if I'd seen them. They always wore those shiny capes, right?

Detective Murphy: Not in public. I think that's one of their skating outfits. But they probably would have been dressed similarly and sat together.

Mark Jordan: Then I don't remember seeing them at all, no. I think I would have remembered them. There was just the one woman that got on in Oxford.

Detective Murphy: Do you remember seeing anything unusual in the Eastgate Shopping Center area where the bus stopped? Any people or vehicles waiting nearby?

Mark Jordan: I don't. I was sitting in the back of the bus talking to this fella I know named Cadillac.

Detective Murphy: Cadillac?

Mark Jordan: Yeah. His real name is Earl, but he loves buying old junk Cadillacs and working on them. He's got two or three nice ones. He was going to Memphis to buy another durn Cadillac, I think.

Detective Armstrong: Did you hear anything unusual?

Mark Jordan: Not much to hear that time of morning.

Detective Armstrong: So if you heard some kind of car noise like backfiring or peeling out or slamming on the brakes or anything like that, you would've noticed it?

Mark Jordan: Me and Cadillac both would've noticed something like that, but I didn't hear anything. We were talking about manifolds and fenders and things. I was half-awake anyway.

Detective Armstrong: So you didn't see the Maxwells, and you didn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary?

Mark Jordan: That's right.

Detective Murphy: OK, Mr. Jordan, I thank you for your time. We'll contact you if we need anything else from you. You'll be available?

Mark Jordan: I'm very easy to find. Just call the university physical plant and ask for me. I'm always around.

Detective Murphy: Thank you.

Interview ends: 12:35 p.m.
