Investigating Officer(s): Det. S. Murphy. Det. T. Armstrong
Incident No.: 000229-12A-2018
Case Description: Veronica Smith death investigation

Pursuant to an order from the court, the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department obtained the voice and text usage details for Veronica Smith’s cell phone number, identified as 662-801-XXXX, for the period of January 5-12, 2018.

  • Because the cell phone had voice mail service, all calls remaining on the line until the voice mail picked up are recorded as completed calls.

At the interview George O’Connor stated: "No. I wish I would’ve called. Maybe I could have prevented this all from happening?" So, is he so muddled up that he forgot he tried to call, did Haley try and call her mother to tell her the good news...

At the interview George O’Connor stated: "No. I wish I would’ve called. Maybe I could have prevented this all from happening?" So, is he so muddled up that he forgot he tried to call, did Haley try and call her mother to tell her the good news (although she seems to have her own phone), or is he lying?

A few issues I have with the phone recs. First George calls her at the approximate time of death and says he didnt call her. Next and this one really bothers me. No texts or calls to the people she is supposedly meeting out for drinks?! Think about it as if it were you. what are logical things people do when they are going to meet people for a drink or dinner:
texts and/or calls saying:
I'm leaving now,
I'll be there at this time,
I just have to see my daughter and george off to a dance,
I can't be out late because Hailey and George are coming home from the dance
I'm here, where in the bar are you
what are you going to wear
who's all coming

well, Marge Brittingham DID call Veronica on the day - at 2:40pm.. Just cause they dont text and call eachother up constantly, doesnt mean nothing was planned... If they used to go out frequently, we can assume that they dont all need to check up...

well, Marge Brittingham DID call Veronica on the day - at 2:40pm.. Just cause they dont text and call eachother up constantly, doesnt mean nothing was planned... If they used to go out frequently, we can assume that they dont all need to check up on eachother all the time. One call is essentially enough really.

Who's number is the 662587? It's the only one with no name attached.....she seemed to have gotten a lot of messages from that mystery number...could those be the threats?

Clearly the lawsuit was heating up, much back and forth with attorney insurance and lots with the hospital, even weekends. But who at the hospital would she be talking to at 7:25 for 5 minutes on a Sunday night? And also at about 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday? Then she talks to her fellow doctor Burns. Why is she calling Burns at about 11:30 on a Thursday and talking for 12 minutes (why wasn't she at work?) and the main line for the practice at 9:25 on a Friday for 10 minutes? Why wasn't she there at work? She may have been checking up on patients and Burns may be the better of her allies at work, something smells here without further explanation.

What about the number "662587XXXX" ? Many texts from that number...who is that?
Maybe the source of the threatening texts?

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Elizabeth Sherman insisted she did not talk to Veronica on the date of death, but the phone records say otherwise. They were on the phone for 5 minutes at about 4:25 PM. Elizabeth also has access to Ketamine being a vet. I also find it slightly suspicious that she was one of the only people to believe Veronica could have committed suicide. I didn't have any suspicions about Elizabeth until this. I feel like everyone has forgotten that Elizabeth is a suspect as well in this case. I believe the detectives should have another interview with her.
