Woman found dead at her residence

By Kelly Shackleton
Staff Writer

Yoknapawpha County Sheriff’s Department dispatch received a 911 call at 9:58 p.m. Friday night, reporting the discovery of a body at a residence located on Colonial Road.

YCSD Public Information Officer Elizabeth Johnson said when police arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman dead in the home.

The cause of death is unknown, but police are investigating this case as a homicide. Johnson said circumstances surrounding how the body was found in the home made this a suspicious death.

The Oxford Eagle has learned that this is the residence of Dr.Veronica Smith, a gastroenterologist at the Yoknapatawpha Gastroenterology Center in Oxford. Court records show Dr. Smith, her medical practice, and Baptist Memorial Hospital were recently named in a malpractice lawsuit. The lawsuit is pending.

The Coroner’s Office will confirm the victim’s identity and determine the cause of death.

The Oxford Eagle will give updates on this story as they become available.

So Danielle Lemmons, I'm assuming, was one of her patients who received malpractice and died.
