Madison Spires interview #2

Wednesday, February 7, 2024 – 3:00 p.m.

Madison Spires was Blake Jenson's girlfriend.

Detectives Armstrong and Armstrong interviewed her at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Participants:

Detective Murphy: Thanks for coming in again.

Madison Spires: No problem.

Detective Murphy: Could you please state your name and address for the record?

Madison Spires: My name is Madison Spires, and I live at 594 Hawthorn Road.

Detective Armstrong: Thank you. Please tell us about your relationship with Kane Victory.

Madison Spires: Kane is our bass guitarist.

Detective Armstrong: And?

Madison Spires: And nothing! I wasn't doing anything with Kane, and Blake certainly wasn't jealous.

Detective Murphy: Are you sure? Not even on Sunday night when he watched you and Kane having a private conversation by the pool?

Madison Spires: What? I didn't have a private conversation with Kane by the pool.

Detective Armstrong: We have a witness who says otherwise. Did Kane and Blake ever have a physical altercation?

Madison Spires: No.

Detective Armstrong: Again, we have a witness who says otherwise.

Madison Spires: Look, Blake and Kane were friends. Did they argue? Yes, of course! But Kane would never take it so far as to murder Blake. It's ludicrous! My God, why would you even suggest that?

Detective Murphy: Madison, we're just trying to get to the bottom of this. To do that, we ask a lot of questions. We narrow down possibilities. That's how we get results.

Madison Spires: I'm sorry. The last few days have been very stressful. It just seems so pointless.

Detective Murphy: Well, it's not. In fact, it's critical. Now. Do you remember anything unusual about Ginny's behavior on Sunday night?

Madison Spires: Well, no. Sadly, Ginny was not a very memorable person.

Detective Armstrong: Can you please try?

Madison Spires: Okay, fine. Ginny was at the party. She was kind of clingy with Kent, especially just before the lights went out. She was staring at Kent, watching him eat. They were over close to Blake.

Detective Armstrong: What did she eat?

Madison Spires: Nothing. Ginny doesn't eat at social gatherings.

Detective Armstrong: Why, do you know?

Madison Spires: Some kind of restricted diet, I heard.

Detective Murphy: What did she drink?

Madison Spires: She drank from the water bottle she carried with her.

Detective Murphy: Do you think she hung around Kent to be close to Blake?

Madison Spires: Uh, no.

Detective Armstrong: Would that have made you jealous?

Madison Spires: Uh, no, again. Blake loved me. I had no competition.

Detective Murphy: Not even from Bree?

Madison Spires: Especially from Bree.

Detective Armstrong: Would it surprise you to know that Bree and Blake kissed?

Madison Spires: Yes, that would surprise me. But it wouldn't surprise me to know that Bree cornered Blake and tried to force a kiss on him. Which is what happened.

Detective Armstrong: And that didn't bother you?

Madison Spires: In a jealous way? No. I feel sorry for Bree. She can't see what she has in Jamey, who's right in front of her nose, and has to go after another guy. She's pitiful.

Detective Armstrong: We heard you sometimes played a prank on Bree when you thought she'd gone too far with Blake.

Madison Spires: I've played pranks on Bree before, that's true, but not just her. It wasn't personal.

Detective Armstrong: Did you ever play pranks on Blake?

Madison Spires: Of course. I pranked him on the day we met. He loved it!

Detective Armstrong: Every time?

Madison Spires: I don't know. I don't really want to talk about it.

Detective Murphy: You mentioned that Bree doesn't appreciate what she has in Jamey. Do you think he had anything to do with Blake's death?

Madison Spires: Jamey? No, why would he hurt Blake?

Detective Murphy: Jealousy? We've heard from more than one person that Bree had it really bad for Blake.

Madison Spires: That's true, yes, but I don't believe Jamey could hurt Blake. And, Jamey's so busy working, how would he find the time?

Detective Armstrong: He could put something in Blake's food.

Madison Spires: Except that Blake can't eat dairy products, and Jamey delivered a pizza. Honestly, detectives, I can't think of anyone who would purposely hurt Blake.

Detective Murphy: Okay, Madison, we'll be in touch. If anything comes to you that you think might help, let us know.

Madison Spires: I'll do that. Thank you.
