Alyssa Baker is Billy Colby's girlfriend.
Detectives Armstrong and Murphy talked to her at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.
Participants:
- Detective T. Armstrong
- Detective S. Murphy
- Alyssa Baker
Detective Armstrong: Good morning, Ms. Baker. Thank you for coming in. Would you state your name and address for the record?
Alyssa Baker: Um, Alyssa Baker. 801 Frontage Road.
Detective Armstrong: Are you all right, Ms. Baker?
Alyssa Baker: Um, yes. I guess I'm just nervous. I've never been called in to a police station before.
Detective Armstrong: Well, just try to relax. We just want to ask you a few questions. Would you like some water or some bad coffee?
Alyssa Baker: No, thank you.
Detective Armstrong: In that case, we'll just get started with the questions. Okay?
Alyssa Baker: Okay.
Detective Armstrong: Do you know Caroline Jordan, also known as Carly?
Alyssa Baker: I know who she was, but we weren't friends or anything.
Detective Armstrong: How do you know her?
Alyssa Baker: She worked with my boyfriend.
Detective Armstrong: What's his name?
Alyssa Baker: Billy Colby. Don't you already know that?
Detective Murphy: Why weren't you friends?
Alyssa Baker: What?
Detective Murphy: You said you and Carly weren't friends. Why not?
Alyssa Baker: I only knew who she was because she worked with Billy.
Detective Murphy: What did he tell you about her?
Alyssa Baker: I don't know.
Detective Murphy: Yes, you do. We're not here to judge you. We're just looking for information about Carly.
Alyssa Baker: He said she was kind of flirty, okay?
Detective Murphy: How did he feel about that?
Alyssa Baker: What do you think? He didn't like it. He's with me, and she knew it.
Detective Murphy: Sounds like you didn't appreciate it either.
Alyssa Baker: No, I did not. It's so disrespectful.
Detective Murphy: Were you worried she might entice Billy away from you?
Alyssa Baker: No! We're completely dedicated to each other.
Detective Armstrong: Did he tell you anything else about her?
Alyssa Baker: I don't know. Like what?
Detective Armstrong: How she got along with other people at work? Whether she was good at her job? Anything like that?
Alyssa Baker: He said she got the full-time job, so somebody must've thought she was good at it.
Detective Armstrong: Somebody meaning who?
Alyssa Baker: Morgan. He's the boss, so he decided who got the job, and everyone knows he had a thing for Carly.
Detective Armstrong: Everyone knows?
Alyssa Baker: Well, that's what Billy said, anyway.
Detective Armstrong: Did Billy also say Carly got the job because Morgan had a thing for her?
Alyssa Baker: I guess so. I mean, Morgan already has a fiancée. I don't know what he was even doing.
Detective Murphy: When was the last time you saw Carly?
Alyssa Baker: I have no idea. Weeks ago.
Detective Murphy: You didn't go to the party at her house on Sunday night?
Alyssa Baker: No, that was just a work thing. Billy only went because he had to, and he left as soon as he could.
Detective Murphy: When did he leave?
Alyssa Baker: I don't know. We met up around 11:00 p.m., so sometime before that.
Detective Murphy: So, as far as you know, he was at Carly's house until a little before 11:00 p.m.?
Alyssa Baker: I guess. Does it matter?
Detective Murphy: Well, yes.
Alyssa Baker: You don't think Billy killed her, do you? He would never!
Detective Armstrong: Why not? You said she was bothering him at work. Maybe he got an opportunity and took it.
Alyssa Baker: He didn't. How could you think something like that? He would never hurt someone. You don't know him at all.
Detective Armstrong: Who do you think did kill Carly?
Alyssa Baker: How would I know?
Detective Armstrong: People have theories sometimes.
Alyssa Baker: Well, I don't. All I can tell you is Billy didn't do it, and neither did I.
Detective Armstrong: Okay, then. Thank you for your time, Ms. Baker. An officer will see you out.
Alyssa Baker: That's it?
Detective Armstrong: That's it.
