Is the YCSD close to finding the killer of 19-year-old Jasmine Ledbetter?

Have detectives identified the professor's killer?Suspects' residences reportedly being searched

Sources inside the Sheriff's Department are telling Crime Beat that YCSD detectives are in the process of conducting searches in the Jasmine Ledbetter homicide investigation.

No one was willing to confirm, on or off the record, just who was on the receiving end of those warrants, but investigators are apparently optimistic that the results will both rule out and rule in certain suspects.

In recent weeks, rumors have swirled that Jasmine may have been involved in a love triangle gone wrong. Others have speculated that she crossed paths with a predator in sheep's clothing. Whether the detectives are pursuing one of those theories or have an entirely different idea about who killed Jasmine, YCSD spokesperson Elizabeth Jones wouldn't say.

"We don't comment on active investigations," Jones told Crime Beat. "We will follow the evidence—not gossip and innuendo—to find the person or persons responsible for this brutal killing."

Sources close to the investigation say the Crime Lab is slated to process any evidence collected on a rush basis in the hope that the preliminary findings will reveal the killer. If that happens, the YCSD would be able to get the killer off the streets while more in-depth forensic analysis continues.
