Smiling woman with dark hair

Sunday, September 5, 2021 – 6:00 p.m.

Joanna Grubman is married to Kurt Grubman, who works at the Harte Agency. In an earlier interview, Mrs. Grubman made her feelings about Annette Wyatt very clear. The detectives wanted to see her response to the latest allegations about Ms. Wyatt.

Detectives Murphy and Parker interviewed her at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Participants:

  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Detective E. Parker
  • Joanna Grubman

Detective Murphy: Hello again, Mrs. Grubman. Please state your full name and address.

Joanna Grubman: My name is Joanna Grubman, and I live at 1267 Horne Road. I'm so happy to see that the chauvinistic pig isn't here this time.

Detective Murphy: He's here. He just won't be participating this time.

Joanna Grubman: Works for me. How can I help you?

Detective Murphy: Has your husband been keeping you up to date with the latest developments in the case?

Joanna Grubman: Not really. I told him I really didn't care to hear any more about it. Have you arrested her killer?

Detective Parker: Hello, Joanna. I'm Detective Parker.

Joanna Grubman: Nice to meet you.

Detective Parker: You too. There have been allegations that Annette Wyatt was the one leaking information to Pearce Brokers. What do you think?

Joanna Grubman: Really? Wow. I mean, I'm not surprised. She always struck me as a cheat and untrustworthy.

Detective Murphy: So you believe it's true then?

Joanna Grubman: I sure do. You know how I felt about her. In my opinion, she was an awful person, and this just proves it even more.

Detective Parker: If it is true, how do you feel about Annette being the leak?

Joanna Grubman: Well, it makes me mad, and I wish I could confront her, but she's dead, so it doesn't really matter. It pisses me off that she would do this to Jeff. Really, she screwed all of them over. She took customers away from them. It's disgusting!

Detective Murphy: We've also heard that she was planning to leave the Harte Agency and start working for Pearce.

Joanna Grubman: Oh my god, what a b***h. Does Jeff know this? I bet he is fit to be tied. He thought she was so loyal and so trustworthy.

Detective Parker: Joanna, these are just allegations. You do know what that means, right?

Joanna Grubman: Yes, but it makes perfect sense to me. If I remember correctly, she was going to turn in the so-called leak right before she was killed. I wonder who she planned to pin it on. Maybe someone caught wind of all this, and that's why she's dead. Makes for a pretty strong motive, don't you think?

Detective Murphy: Perhaps. So you never suspected either that Annette was the leak or that she was planning to leave the Harte Agency?

Joanna Grubman: I didn't exactly spend a lot of time thinking about what Annette was up to. I just assumed whatever she did was selfish and likely to hurt innocent people, and I was right.

Detective Murphy: Kurt hasn't told you of any of this?

Joanna Grubman: Nope. I told you. I told him I was sick of hearing about it. I told him not to tell me any more until they found out who killed her.

Detective Parker: Is it important for you to know who killed her?

Joanna Grubman: Not really. Maybe I could send them a Thank You card, you know, for cleaning up the office.

Detective Parker: Cleaning up the office?

Joanna Grubman: Taking out the trash, whatever you want to call it.

Detective Murphy: Mrs. Grubman, was it you or your husband who went out around midnight on the night Annette Wyatt was killed?

Joanna Grubman: What? We were asleep. What are you talking about?

Detective Murphy: We have information that one of you went out that night around midnight.

Joanna Grubman: Well, your information is wrong.

Detective Murphy: So that information is wrong, but the information about Annette is right?

Joanna Grubman: Isn't it obvious? We're good people, so if someone tells you something negative about us, it's obviously a lie. But Annette was a selfish b***h, so if someone talks trash about her, it's probably true.

Detective Parker: I saw your previous interview, and it was obvious how you felt about Annette. But she's been gone for a while now, and you still seem awfully angry at her.

Joanna Grubman: I am! Everyone's so worried about how she died, who killed her, and making them pay, and it turns out she asked for it.

Detective Murphy: She asked for someone to murder her with a nail gun? You think she deserved to die?

Joanna Grubman: She deserved to pay. Not with her life, perhaps, but some form of judgment needed to be carried out. Maybe it was karma.

Detective Parker: Well, thanks for coming in. We're finished here.

Joanna Grubman: You're welcome. And don't think I don't see what you think of me because I do, but I'm not going to lie about how I feel just so you'll think I'm a nice person. Maybe if your family and friends were the ones being screwed over, you'd feel the same way.

Detective Murphy: Have a good evening.

Interview ended – 6:21 p.m.
