Dear Ms. Holloway: Thank you for contacting us regarding your software project. Based on the specifications you sent, it sounds like a very promising product. At this time, SSE is not taking on any additional projects. However, we invite you to contact us again in six months if you are still interested in selling your encryption software. Sincerely,
Dear Ms. Holloway: We were very interested to hear about your email encryption software. It is obvious that you have invested a lot of skill and effort into your project. We would very much like to have further discussions with you regarding the acquisition of this product and other potential products you may develop in the future. However, as we are approaching the end of our fiscal year, we must postpone any such discussions until after June 30, 2000. If your software is still available at that time, and we do hope that it is, please contact me to initiate negotiations. Sincerely,
Dear Wendy: Thanks for updating me on your latest project. It sounds great! I think you're going to find a profitable market for it and I'd definitely like to help you out with it. Unfortunately, I don't have anybody in the client pool right now who has both the right status in the market and enough ready cash to pay you what it's worth. But I'll keep my eyes open for you. Let me know when you get it finished and ready for release. In the meantime, I'll do some more networking and try to locate a good company with deep enough pockets for you. All my best,
Dear Ms. Holloway: Thank you for giving us the opportunity to review the specifications of your current software project. However, as of January 1, 2000, SafetyShield Systems is no longer purchasing any software packages from outside vendors, as we are now focused on developing our own software in-house. We wish you success in finding a buyer for your current software and on your future projects. We were very impressed with the quality of your work. If you should become interested in permanent employment in the future, we hope you will contact us regarding any open positions we may have at that time. Sincerely,
Dear Wendy, I cannot tell you what joy I felt when I received your lovely letter. It's nice to know you still remember me fondly after all these years. Congratulations on all your many successes. Though, I must say, I wasn't even slightly surprised to learn of them. You are truly one of those rare minds that occasionally graces the world with brilliance and grace. I wonder, are you blushing as you read this? I remember how well you coped with compliments. Though, I'm sure you'll indulge your old professor and let him tell you all the wonderful things about you. Me and mine are doing very well. Mrs. Thorne sends her regards. Did I tell you my grandson, George was accepted at Yale? We were all quite pleased and very proud. I think, in some small way, we have you to thank because of that summer of tutoring not so long ago. George sends his many thanks and happy hellos to you too. Life at the University is as it always is; hurried and labored at once. Many bright, shining faces, eager to change the world. Some daunted by the work, but strengthened by it too. I will miss seeing those faces, each fall, as they file into my course room, anxious, excited, jumbled nerves. But, this next year will be my last teaching. I have promised to retire and take my bride of 45 years to travel and live out our twilight years as happy tourists. Now, on to you. I have thought a great deal about your problem, wondering how you could proceed at this stage without truly knowing all the facts. The simple answer is that you cannot. As with any problem, all factors must be known to the problem solver or the solution will be flawed and unexecutable. I would urge you then, to determine all the facts of the situation. You have made a great start and I have every confidence that you will leave no stone unturned until at last you have learned the truth. Once the truth has shown its face, the solution will be obvious to a mind as bright as yours. Though, naturally, if you wish to write again and report any or all of your discoveries and the solution you have postulated, I would be more than happy to help in any way I can. I am sorry if you are frowning (which you no doubt are) in just the same way you did not so long ago, when you received similar responses from me about problems you didn't believe you could solve. But if you recall, in fact, you did, every time. Believe in yourself, dear girl. You are your best resource. Be well, be happy. Yours, Reggie |
