Case Description: Wendy Pane Holloway (AKA Jane Doe #00-112) Homicide


Forensic Analysis of Contents Found at Holloway Residence and Follow-up Analysis of Items in Bag

Serology:

All questionable stains were tested for human blood.

  • 002821-005: One (1) blue cotton throw rug with apparent footprint of red-brown color. After photographing the print, a small portion of the stain was removed (not to disturb the integrity of the pattern) for DNA testing.
  • An area of pooled blood was found on the floor of the shed.
  • 002821-153 through 002821-155: Three (3) pieces of folk art
    • One (002821-155), a 2X4 board carved and painted, was stained with blood.
  • Two (2) pairs disposable gloves, stained (from bag containing clothes).
  • Cast-off marks indicating medium-velocity spattering were found on the north wall of the shed.
  • A small blood smear was found in the trunk of the victim's car.
  • Drag marks were discovered in the carport originating from the west entrance of the carport, around the car, to the trunk area of the car.
  • 002821-156: One (1) scrap of blue cotton fabric, with dark brown-red stains.

All above samples, except the one taken from 002821-005, were determined to be positive for human blood (Blood Type A+) and are consistent with the victim's DNA D4S139 profile.

002821-130: One (1) cigarette butt has been prepared for DNA analysis of any saliva on the filter.

 

Fingerprints:

  • The larger pieces of glass shards were analyzed for fingerprints.
    • 002821-016 through 002821-018: Three (3) large pieces of broken glass, green
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • Blake Stillwater
    • 002821-019: One (1) large shard of clear glass, French's® mustard label partially attached
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • unidentified
    • 002821-020 through 002821-026: Seven (7) large pieces of broken china, white
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • Blake Stillwater
    • 002821-062 through 002821-075: Fourteen (14) pieces of broken glass
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • unidentified
    • 002821-062 through 002821-067: Six (6) green
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • Blake Stillwater
      • unidentified
    • 002821-068 through 002821-075: Eight (8) clear
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
      • unidentified
    • 002821-106: One (1) large shard of glass, green
      Fingerprints found were identified as belonging to:
      • Wendy Holloway
  • Fingerprints found on a piece of folk art were identified as belonging to:
    • Eugenia Stillwater
    • unidentified
  • Fingerprints found on the shed doorknob were identified as belonging to:
    • Wendy Holloway
    • Eugenia Stillwater
    • unidentified
  • Fingerprints found on the car driver and passenger doors were identified as belonging to:
    • Wendy Holloway
    • William King
    • Blake Stillwater
    • unidentified
  • No fingerprints other than the victim's were found on items:
    • 002821-054 through 002821-061: Eight (8) compact disc jewel cases,
    • 002821-108 through 002821-118: Eleven (11) compact disc jewel cases,
    • 002821-179: One (1) compact disc jewel case

 

Trace Evidence:

  • Fibers found on the victim are consistent with the carpet in the trunk of her car.
  • Paint chips found in the victim's hair are consistent with originating from the folk art stained with blood (002821-155).
  • 002821-171: One (1) latex glove, unused, consistent with bloody gloves found in bag.
  • Small shards of glass found on the shed floor are consistent with items 002821-016 through 002821-018: Three (3) large pieces of broken glass, green.

 

Foot/Tire prints:

  • Footprint found near victim's water hose, photographed; to be analyzed for size and brand of shoe.
  • 002821-005: One (1) blue cotton throw rug with apparent footprint of red-brown color, identified as tomato ketchup; consistent with size and shape of print near water hose.
  • Possible bicycle tire print, photographed; to be analyzed for size and brand of tire.

 

Chemistry:

  • 002821-011 through 002821-013: Three (3) bags of dried herbs
    • Contained basil, oregano, and rosemary
  • 002821-126: One (1) small vial, containing traces of white powder
    • Contained 22mg cocaine
  • 002821-175: One (1) small vial, approx. 1/4 filled with unidentified white powder
    • Powder identified as cocaine (523mg)
  • 002821-019: One (1) large shard of clear glass, French's® mustard label partially attached
    • Trace substance on glass identified as mustard

 

Handwriting Analysis:

  • 002821-131: One (1) Proud Larry's beverage napkin with "call milton" written on it
    • Being sent for handwriting analysis

 

Crime Reconstruction:

Based an the forensic examination of the scene, the following scenario is consistent with the evidence found:

  1. The victim's house is entered through the back kitchen door (broken kitchen window).
  2. The victim's house is vandalized/robbed.
  3. The victim arrives and is attacked in the yard (backpack most likely to be with victim when first accosted).
  4. Evidence of a struggle in yard (earring, shoe, backpack, damaged eyeglasses).
  5. Struggle ensued in the shed (patching earring and shoe).
  6. Murdered in shed (cast-off patterns consistent with number of wounds on victim).
  7. Victim dragged into carport (drag marks in victim's blood).
  8. Victim placed in trunk of car (blood smear consistent with victim in trunk, fibers consistent with trunk carpet on victim).
  9. Victim transported to clearing in Kelly Woods.
