The interview was conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.
Detective Ted Armstrong
Detective Samantha Murphy
Kristin Colby
Det Armstrong: Could you please state your name and address for the record please?
Kristin Colby: Uh, Kristin Colby. I live on campus. 211 Sorority row.
Det Murphy: Thank you Kristin for coming to talk with us. We just have a few questions about Victor Jennings we're hoping you could help us out with.
Kristin Colby: Yeah, sure whatever. Gets me out of Chem. What do you need?
Det Armstrong: You're roommates with Terri Smith, correct?
Kristin Colby: Yeah... and?
Det Armstrong: She claims she was raped by Victor Jennings. He's dead now. Sounds like a pretty good motive for murder
Kristin Colby: (Witness laughs) Terri didn't kill that scum. She wouldn't harm a fly.
Det. Murphy: Then someone did it for her... friend... a roommate maybe? When was the last time you saw Victor?
Kristin Colby: You're barking up the wrong tree Scooby. Someone did the world a favor, but it wasn't me.
Det Murphy: Answer the question Kristin.
Kristin Colby: The last time I saw Victor was at his party! You think I'd go back there?
Det. Armstrong: Maybe not. But he did try to rape you too, didn't he?
Kristin Colby: Yes! Look I thought he was a nice guy who wanted to help me out. Turns out I was wrong and he got his.
Det. Murphy: Tell us about how you came to know Victor and the last time you saw him.
Kristin Colby: I met Victor through Samantha Hawke. Well, Terri and I did. She set us up and he suggested we meet for drinks. So, me and Terri met him at Ajax 's. He was nice. He told us we were beautiful and needed to get more work and that he could help with that.
Det. Armstrong: So he flattered you, made you feel good?
Kristin Colby: Yeah! So when he wanted us to come to a party at his house we thought nothing of it. Especially since he said it would be good for our careers.
Det. Murphy: Did you and Terri go to the party together?
Kristin Colby: No... I took my own car because Victor got me a modeling gig in just that small amount of time. It was the next day so I was going to leave earlier. I didn't want to look all puffy.
Det Armstrong: Okay sure... what happened at the party?
Kristin Colby: We went in and started to mingle. And the first person we met was a loser. His name was Carl and he was covered in gross tattoos. He said he took care of problems for Victor... I don't even want to comment on that. Anyway, we split up to cover more ground and I found Victor. He gave me and a drink we talked about how pretty I was.
Det. Murphy: You were flirting with him? What happened then?
Kristin Colby: Totally. Then the perv got all handsy and wanted to go to his bedroom. No one was telling him I was no where near drunk enough to sleep with him yet.
Det Armstrong: So you were gonna sleep with him?
Kristin Colby: Uh, yeah. If he was gonna jump start my career you bet I was. So, I made a choice and downed a couple of shots and off we went to his bedroom.
Det Murphy: What happened there?
Kristin Colby: He kept pushing me around and getting real, I don't know, like aggressive. He was wanting to tape it too. And I told him no way, no how. That kind of pissed him off then.
Det Armstrong: So he kept pushing... .
Kristin Colby: Oh yeah, he kept trying to get it on and wasn't even trying to set a mood. Just like old dudes, just want to get done. Anyway, I pushed him off and kept saying no. But the pervert came back on me and put his hands up my skirt and I slapped him. He jumped back and I kicked him. I was so out of there when the bastard grabbed my arm. So I turned around to tell him off and he punched me! Do you know what trauma like that does to a face like mine?
Det Armstrong: And you got through that?
Det. Murphy: What Armstrong means to say is what happened next?
Kristin Colby: Well I was a little stunned so I stayed on the floor just waiting to be raped. But I was picked up by Victor's "special friend." And he dumped me in Victor's backyard. Victor got brave then and told me to leave and not even think about going to my job the next day.
Det Murphy: So, you left?
Kristin Colby: Oh, totally! There was no way I was sticking around there.
Det Armstrong: Not even for your roommate?
Kristin Colby: Hey man, I had just been traumatized. All I was thinking about was getting out of there. I truly forgot about Terri and when I remembered, I figured that she was a big girl.
Det. Murphy: When did you see Terri again?
Kristin Colby: Back at home, she came in all upset. Said Victor had raped her. I tried to get her to call you guys, but she wouldn't do it. I finally convinced her to at least see the nurse at the Student Health Services.
Det. Armstrong: We understand that your brother paid Victor a visit? What happened there?
Kristin Colby: Kyle was mega pissed that Victor gave me a black eye. He said he was going to have a conversation with him. Conversation is Kyle's word for a butt kicking. So, I wanted Victor to feel like I did and I asked him to go.
Det Murphy: What happened there?
Kristin Colby: I don't know. All Kyle would tell me was that I wouldn't have to worry about Victor again. Look, I didn't have anything to do with Victor's death. I won't lie and say I'm sorry he's dead, but I don't want that kind of bad karma on my head. I mean taking a life, especially one as worthless as his, I could like come back as a toad or something.
Det. Armstrong: Okay. Uhm, where were you on October 28th?
Kristin Colby: Oh I was shopping with my friend Kim in Tupelo .
Det Murphy: All day?
Kristin Colby: Oh yeah totally. We were looking for new winter fashions. That is an all day event. Then we went to the Olive Garden for dinner. It is so awesome having an Olive Garden nearby now!
Det Armstrong: Yeah, I'll bet. What time you get back into town?
Kristin Colby: Ummm, I dropped Kimmy off about 9:30 that night and went home.
Det Murphy: Okay Kristin. I think that about does it. Thanks again for coming in. We'll be in touch if anything comes to mind.
