Using a shoe print collected at the crime scene, your students will be able to determine critical information about the criminal! Students will analyze and compare shoe castings.

When investigators discovered three deceased victims at a vehicle crash site over the side of Backbone Mountain they retraced the vehicle’s path and also discovered several pieces of broken glass lying in the roadway.

In this lab students will examine the refractive index of various glass fragments. A large amount of trace evidence was collected during the investigation of the cabin, and recently additional trace evidence has arrived from the Tumbling Water Land Development Co. truck discovered in New Mexico.

Students are tasked with analyzing the hair and fiber evidence. Hairs and fibers must first be removed from trace evidence collection tape by dissolving its adhesive in water and filtering the hairs and fibers from the solution. Students must then characterize the hairs and fibers using microscopy.

John Wayne Gretsky presented a bite mark on his arm as an alibi, claiming he was bitten in a bar fight. Your students must determine if he was bitten by a bar patron, or maybe by a victim of the car crash!

During the investigation of the Mondelo murder, police have turned their suspicion on business partner John Wayne Gretsky, finding questionable receipts on his des. Your students must determine if these receipts are legitimate business documents or evidence of a crime. To do this, students must determine objective criteria for hand writing analysis, and then apply these criteria when examining suspect receipts.

After analyzing the handwriting, students will dissolve the ink from numbers on the suspect invoices. Then, using thin layer chromatography, they will create an ink profile for each of the samples taken from the reciept. From this information, students will determine if the same ink was used to fill out the entire form. Finally, by combining where different inks were used with what reciepts are suspected of forgery, students can develop a complete theory of the suspected forgery.

Identity Crisis! Two women have been identified post-mortem as Louise Mondelo. It is up to your students to determine who is actually Louise using the latest in DNA typing technology.

Your students must determine how the blood spatter found at the cabin scene was formed. To do this, students first learn about the techniques for blood spatter pattern analysis. Then, students will conduct an experiment designed to determine the relationship between the height and angle of impact of a blood drop and the size of shape of the spatter.

Students drop synthetic blood onto paper at different heights and angles in and then measure the size and shape of those drops. Afterwards, they will use MS Excel or another spreadsheet program to analyze their data and build a mathematical model.

After students have created their model, they will apply it to the blood spatter patterns found in the cabin. By running strings that attach to the blood in the crime scene model's walls at angles predicted by their model, students will be able to determine the point of impact that caused the spatter.

The bodies discovered in the cabin crime scene were unrecognizably decomposing and had large maggot masses on them. Students will learn how forensic entomologists use maggots to determine the post mortem interval (PMI). Students will then examine exemplars of the life stages of two fly species and develop their own personal key for distinguishing between life stage and species.

Afterwards, students will use their key to identify a number of insects that were collected from the corpses. They will then record that information for the entire class to use. More than one gun? Your students must examine a bullet that was found at the scene of the crime to discover more details about the events surrounding the murder!

Outside the cabin crime scene, there is evidence of a struggle. A bullet was found lodged in the mud. At a separate crime scene, investigators have found an unloaded gun that was presumed to have been left behind by two of the suspects. Students need to compare bullet striations to see if the bullet found outside the cabin was fired by the gun found by the police.

When investigators discovered three deceased victims at a burned vehicle crash site over the side of Backbone Mountain, they questioned whether the burned vehicle was merely the result of the crash, or could have potentially been the result of foul play.

In this lab students will examine fire debris from the interior of a burned vehicle at the site of an automobile crash. They will learn how forensic scientists analyze fire debris for the presence of ignitable liquid residue in suspected arson cases. Sawtooth® evidence sealing tape is the most sensitive, tamper-indicating tape available. If physical removal is attempted the sawtooth edges tear while chemical tampering causes the solvent-sensitive dye to dissolve and smear. With its permanent adhesive and instantaneous cure time this tape is excellent for sealing a wide variety of evidence containers. Tape is 1 1/4 inches wide. Tape is available in a 10 ft roll or a 108 ft roll with free dispenser box.

We have a few rolls of "Fringe Site Do Not Cross" tape. Tape is black with Red printing , 500 ft long , 3 inches wide and 4 mil thick.

This tape was custom printed for a customer and it looked so nice we picked up a few rolls for ourselves.

This low-cost, disposable cyanoacrylate fuming device is specifically designed for developing latent prints within five minutes, either in the laboratory or at a crime scene.

The innovative design of the Press & Fume™ allows first responders to process evidence for latent prints at a crime scene. Prints developed using cyanoacrylate (superglue) are considered strong and permanent; therefore, after photographs are taken, the evidence can be transported to the lab without damage to the developed prints.

Press & Fume™ consists of a 4" L x 1.5" W x .75" H cardboard box with two prefilled, hermetically sealed glass ampoules containing cyanoacrylate and a high density cotton pad saturated with a catalyst and accelerant solution, then thoroughly dried.

Using Press & Fume™ to develop prints is a simple, two step procedure:

Step 1 - After placing the Press & Fume™ box in the bottom of a fuming chamber or cardboard box, simply break the two ampoules with the ampoule breaker supplied in each case of kits.
Step 2 - Cyanoacrylate vapors will immediately start fuming from the .125" diameter vents on top of the Press & Fume™ box, and prints will fully develop within five minutes (in a 3 cubic ft. chamber).
Press & Fume™ can also be used for developing latent prints inside vehicles, using either two or four Press & Fume™ devices, depending on the size of the vehicle's interior.
Prints developed with cyanoacrylate fuming will be very light gray or off-white. To enhance the contrast of cyanoacrylate prints on white or light-colored backgrounds, prints can be dusted using standard fingerprint powder; i.e. prints developed on a white coffee cup should be lightly dusted using black fingerprint powder. Prints developed on multicolored surfaces can be dusted with fluorescent powder.

Developing prints with Press & Fume™ is easier and faster than other fuming techniques and virtually eliminates the possibility of damaging developed prints when evidence is transported back to the lab.

Our quick drying Ninhydrin Spray is supplied in an easy-to-use pump misting bottle and is an extremely sensitive method for developing old latent prints on paper documents, letters, newspaper, envelopes, wrapping paper, checks, and even wallpaper at a crime scene.

Ninhydrin reacts to the proteins and amino acids found in fingerprints. When ninhydrin is sprayed on the suspected area, the print will appear purple in color when heated to approximately 220 degrees in an oven or with a hair dryer or infrared lamp.

Bellehomme Academy is the scene of large scale drug dealings. Authorities have seized large quantities of a controlled substance. The police and Board of Education are cautious in accusing suspects due to recent law suits

It is the student’s job to solve the case.

Students perform simulated drug tests, urine, fingerprint, and handwriting analysis in order to identify the distributor of the drugs in the school. Students investigate a suspicious white powder found on the campus of Bellhomme Academy. They perform chemical and forensic tests to identify the unknown solid and find the drug pusher who is distributing the drugs.
