The witness, who is currently hospitalized at Stanford University Hospital, requested an interview with case investigators. He was interviewed by phone at the hospital. The interview was recorded on an audio tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.

TA: Mr. Boyd, Doctor Tenochis has advised us you really shouldn't be putting yourself through the strain of an interview given your condition. Why are you contacting us right now?

JB: Let you know. Rocky.

SM: Who is Rocky?

JB: Roommate. Matt. Jamie. Rocky.

TA: You're referring to James Washington?

JB: Rocky took care of him. Matt.

 SM: Rocky and Matt --

JB: No!! No.  Listen. ...Matt said Rocky. Took care of him.

TA: Was Rocky your roommate?

JB: No!! ...No! Wait --

AT: Officers, this wasn't a good idea. I'm going to have to ask you to call back. I'm very sorry but he's not in good shape and can't risk getting agitated like this.

TA: That's the way it'll have to be then. Thanks for your help.
