Second Follow-up Interview: Lewis O. Silky, owner of Days Inn

Saturday, September 26, 2009 - 9:03 AM

Lewis Silky is a 59-year-old white male.  The interview was conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.

Detective Ted Armstrong
Detective Samantha Murphy
Lewis Silky

Lewis Silky: Hello again detectives, I am Lewis Silky and I live on 1101 Frontage Road. This is the third time you have asked me in here and I don’t have much time to spare so let's get this over with please.

Detective Murphy: We need to ask you some more questions Lewis.

Detective Armstrong: And we have all day, no reason to rush things.

Lewis Silky: I don't know anymore now than I did the last time I talked to you except that now I know who was killed in that room.

Detective Armstrong: We wondered if you had any idea why Oscar was in Oxford.

Lewis Silky: Well, he did mention something about "shaking up a few people at the park."

Detective Murphy: When was this, Lewis?

Lewis Silky: The last time I saw him before…before the incident.

Detective Murphy: Are you sure?

Lewis Silky: I think so, yes. I didn't comment back though, because I didn't want to say anything wrong and set him off.

Detective Armstrong: Did anyone call the hotel or come looking for Oscar after "the incident"?

Lewis Silky: I received a lot of calls about the finger but no one asked specifically about Mr. Knight. I did have several guests who checked out early after you guys spent the day running in and out of the room. I had to refund their money, too, because they were all upset over the crime scene tape. It was awful for business.

Detective Murphy: Routine procedure Lewis, nothing we could do to avoid that.

Lewis Silky: I know, it isn't your fault I just wish he had stayed somewhere else. Things are finally getting back to normal though.

Detective Armstrong:  We know that Oscar was alive at 10 PM on August 7. Your maid found the finger around 12:30 pm on the 8th. Can you account for your whereabouts during those hours?

Lewis Silky: No.  I mean, I can't prove where I was. I worked the front desk until about 11 and then I went to my room, read a little, took a shower and went to bed. I was up and in the breakfast room by 6 am. I like to have my breakfast before the guests start coming in to eat. Then I went and worked in the office until Cassie came screaming to me about the finger.

Detective Murphy: No one can vouch for you Lewis?

Lewis Silky: No, I was alone. You have to believe me. I didn't have anything to do with what happened to Mr. Knight. I swear I didn't. Did you ever talk to Gavin Price like I suggested?

Detective Armstrong: We are talking to YOU right now and we ask the questions.

Lewis Silky: I really need to go; I have to take my mother in for her check up.

Detective Murphy: All right Lewis, that’s all.

Detective Armstrong: For now anyway.

Lewis Silky: Good day detectives. Good luck, I hope you find the killer…soon.

Interview ends:  9:40 AM
