The witness, Gavin Price, is identified as a person of
interest who stayed
in Room 115 at the Days Inn where the severed finger was found. The
interview
was conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and recorded on
a
portable tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.
Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Gavin Price
Detective Armstrong: State your name and address for the
record.
Gavin Price: Yes sir! My name is Gavin Price and I live
at 3743 N 11th St, Phoenix, Arizona.
Detective Murphy: Why are you so hostile?
Gavin Price: Isn't it obvious? I don't have anything
else to tell you
people yet you make me come back here again. I am actually on vacation
right
now and instead of being on the lake with my family I am sitting
here.
Would you be happy?
Detective Armstrong: I'm here and I'm happy. See this smile?
Gavin Price: Ha-ha, you're just a regular comedian now, aren't
you?
Detective Murphy: We spoke with Ms. Waller and she
verified that you
did indeed have coffee with her on the eighth of August, in the
morning. She
stated that you were yourself and that you didn't seem nervous or
paranoid
about anything.
Gavin Price: So, why am I here?
Detective Armstrong: We still have unanswered questions.
Some things
just don't make sense to us. For example, you fought with Oscar Knight
two
years ago yet you tell us that when you saw him at Muff’s you didn't
know it
was him. I still don't get that.
Gavin Price: Back then Oscar Knight was twice the man he
is now…or
was. Two years ago he weighed a LOT more. Pardon me if this sounds rude
but
when a person is that obese they just tend to look like all other fat
people.
Haven't you ever noticed how all fat people look alike? They just don't
seem to
have any features.
Detective Murphy: That last statement was rude indeed.
But if it were
true that Oscar was a lot heavier then, it would make sense.
Detective Armstrong: You said you heard car doors around
midnight, why
is it that you didn't look outside?
Gavin Price: Here we go again. If I looked out the
window every time I
heard car doors while I was at a hotel I wouldn't get any sleep.
Detective Armstrong: On that same night you witnessed a
heated
discussion at the bar and said that the other man followed Oscar out?
Gavin Price: Yes, he did and he was really angry, too.
Detective Armstrong: When you arrived back at the Days
Inn you saw Oscar
going into the room next to yours. Would you happen to know the room
number by
any chance?
Gavin Price: It was the one to the right of my
room. That
would be 117.
Detective Armstrong: Are you sure you didn't see anyone
else near or
close by?
Gavin Price: I wasn't looking for anyone but I don't
remember seeing
anything unusual or anyone else.
Detective Armstrong: Did you kill Oscar Knight?
Gavin Price: No. Please believe me. I will be happy to
take a test.
Detective Armstrong: A lie detector test?
Gavin Price: If that's what it takes for you
people to leave me
alone.
Detective Armstrong: Were you ever in Oscar's room?
Gavin Price: No. Never.
Detective Armstrong: Then why was your hair found in his
room?
Gavin Price: You guys planted it maybe? I was never in
that room. This
is definitely a set up!
Detective Armstrong: You still want to take that test?
Gavin Price: Yes, I have absolutely nothing to hide. I
had nothing to
do with his death. Either arrest me or let me go. I have nothing
further to
add.
Detective Armstrong: Go ahead; go have your vacation
with your family.
Leave us a number where you can be reached. Your cell would work.
Gavin Price: xxx-xxx-3604.
Detective Murphy: Thank you for coming back to Oxford.
Enjoy yourself
on the lake.
Gavin Price: Um huh. I will.
