Interview: Delilah Olson, neighbor of Beau Dixon

Thursday , August 27, 2009 - 10:30 AM

The witness, Delilah Olson, is the neighbor of Beau Dixon, whose dog discovered a bag containing two human feet. The interview was conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and recorded on a portable tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.

Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Delilah Olson

Detective Murphy: For the record please state your name and address.

Delilah Olson:  My name is Delilah Olson and I live at 374 Garner Street .

Detective Murphy:  Beau Dixon is a neighbor of yours.  Is that right?

Delilah Olson:  Yes he is, and I can't say I'm surprised you've asked me here to talk about him.

Detective Murphy:  Why do you say that?

Delilah Olson:  The man has always creeped me out.

Detective Murphy:  In what way?

Delilah Olson:  I pay a lot of attention to the people around me.  If someone looks stressed out, like they need a break, I mention Oxford Travel, where I work.  If they then come in and book a trip through us, I get a bonus.  And in booking trips for people, I have to be able to read them.  Or they intrigued by the trip or scared?  Is the trip I suggested too expensive, too short?  I need to be able to determine that so I can change my pitch.

Detective Murphy:  It sounds like you're good at what you do.

Delilah Olson:  My boss says I'm one of the best.  But anyway, how this relates to Beau, I just never got a good vibe off him.

Detective Murphy:  What do you mean?

Delilah Olson:  Well, for one thing, whenever I see him, he always seems to be staring at me.

Detective Armstrong:  Has he ever made a pass at you?

Delilah Olson:  Not even once.  Listen, I don't want to toot my own horn, but I'm not exactly ugly.  I'm nineteen and female.  I have married couples coming into Oxford Travel, and maybe half the time he flirts a little.  It's only natural, right?  But Beau, he never says peep, he just stares.

Detective Armstrong:  Maybe he doesn't want to get involved with someone who lives so close, just in case things don't work out.

Delilah Olson:  I'm never seen Beau with a woman.  Never seen him with a guy.  After a while, it makes you wonder.

Detective Armstrong:  And what do you wonder?

Delilah Olson:  When I'm going to be interviewed by you folks about the serial killer who lives next door to me.

Detective Murphy:  Do you really think Beau Dixon is a serial killer?

Delilah Olson:  He's strange, that's what I think.  I'm no expert on serial killers.  I see the shows, that's all, and I'd say that Beau fits the profile.

Detective Armstrong:  You ever hear or see anything strange coming from next door?

Delilah Olson:  No, he seems like a very private person.  Which just makes this whole thing seem even odder, his dog "just happening" to find a bag of body parts.

Detective Armstrong:  What do you mean?

Delilah Olson:  You can't believe it's a coincidence.  Either Beau didn't dispose of the remains far enough away, and Monty found it, or Beau meant Monty to find it so he could play with your heads.  If he's not sweating right now, he's laughing.

Detective Murphy:  How can you be so sure?  Just because he didn't ask you out?

Delilah Olson:  Like I said, Beau Dixon has always given me the creeps.

Detective Armstrong:  Do you know what kind of hours he keeps?

Delilah Olson:  I don't really know how to answer that.  It's not like I'm watching for his car or anything. Although I did see it one time, about a year ago.  That was weird.

Detective Armstrong:  Don't you see it in his driveway?

Delilah Olson:  No, I mean outside the neighborhood.  I recognized the car coming towards me just before he turned into a parking lot.  That was the Days Inn.  I remember

because I wondered whether he was having his house sprayed for bugs, and whether I could expect them to scuttle over to my place.

Detective Murphy:  That will be all for now.  Thanks for your time.

Interview ends:  11:00 AM
