The witness, Ron Harrison, is Latasha Harrison’s husband. The
interview
was
conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff’s Department and recorded on a
portable
tape recorder with the witness’s knowledge and consent.
Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Ron Harrison
Detective Murphy: Good
morning Mr.
Harrison, please have a seat.
Ron Harrison: Sure, but why am I here?
Detective Murphy: First off, we need your name and address for
the record.
Then we’ll get to why you’re here.
Ron Harrison: Ok, my name is Ron Harrison and I live at 202 South 17th Street.
Detective Armstrong: Mr. Harrison can you tell us anything
about a man named
Oscar Knight?
Ron Harrison: Yeah, I remember that clown. I got off work late
and went over
to Murff’s. When I walked in I saw him sitting there with his arm
around my
wife. I started to let him have it but he turned tail and left.
Detective Armstrong: Mr. Harrison is it true that’s not
the first time
you’ve caught your wife with other men? Doesn’t it drive you crazy?
Ron Harrison: Men are always hitting on Latasha. She’s a
beautiful woman. I
admit I don’t like it but I know Latasha wouldn’t cheat on me. We have
a good
marriage.
Detective Armstrong: We have witnesses that told us you had a
confrontation with
Oscar Knight before he left the bar. Did you threaten Mr. Knight?
Ron Harrison: Yeah, I did. I told him he had better stay away
from my wife
or else. I wanted to punch his lights out but I restrained
myself.
Detective Armstrong: Or else what? Did you follow Oscar Knight
after you
left Murff’s and actually show him why he should stay away from your
wife?
Ron Harrison: I never touched a hair on his head and I never
saw the weasel
after he left the bar!
Detective Murphy: Mr. Harrison you’re a jealous man, aren’t
you? It seems to
me that your wife purposely does things to make you jealous.
Latasha says
you’re a wimp. She says you talk big to the men she flirts around
with
but she’s the one that catches all the flak. Isn’t it true that all
your fights
are with your wife instead of the men you catch her with?
Ron Harrison: That’s not true! Latasha makes me so mad because
she just
doesn’t care that I see her flirting with other men. What am I
supposed to
do? Beat up every man I see her with? I love Latasha but she drives me
crazy by
the way she acts.
Detective Murphy: Did you and your wife have a fight after
Oscar Knight left
or not?
Ron Harrison: I tried to get her to go home but she said she
wasn’t leaving.
She stormed off to the bathroom, so I left.
Detective Murphy: Latasha said she got home around 1 AM. Where
were you from
the time you left the bar until you got home?
Ron Harrison: I think it was around 10 PM when I left Murff’s.
I went to see
my buddy from work at his house to talk. I do that sometimes when
Latasha and I
have a fight. He and his wife are good people and they always calm me
down.
Detective Armstrong: What time did you leave your friend’s
house?
Ron Harrison: I left around 12:30 AM and by the time I drove
home it was
almost 1 o’clock. Latasha came home right after me.
Detective Armstrong: Mr. Harrison we’re going to need the name
and address
of this friend before you leave today.
Ron Harrison: Of course, Detective, I can write it down for
you.
Detective Murphy: Mr. Harrison did Latasha tell you where she
was after you
left the bar?
Ron Harrison: All she’d tell me was that she was with her
friends. If you
want to know the answer to that question you’ll have to ask her
yourself.
Detective Murphy: Thanks for co-operating with us today Mr.
Harrison.
After you write down the name and address of your friend you’re free to
leave.
