The witness, Ron Harrison, is Latasha Harrison’s husband. The
interview was
conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and recorded on a
portable
tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.
Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Ron Harrison
Detective Murphy: Mr. Harrison, before we ask you a few more
questions, we
need your name and address for the record.
Ron Harrison: My name is Ron Harrison and I live at 202 South 17th Street, Oxford. There's nothing else I can tell you. I heard the news
about
Oscar Knight. I guess he must have hit on the wrong woman this time.
The guy
was a jerk but to be cut up like that in pieces is sick.
Detective Armstrong: I have to agree someone did a number on
him. Could that
someone have been you, Mr. Harrison?
Ron Harrison: H*** no! I didn’t like the guy hitting on my
wife but to do
that to someone, no way.
Detective Armstrong: You told us before that you left the bar
at ten p.m.
and went to a co-workers house till twelve thirty a.m. Then you went
home.
Ron Harrison: That sounds about right.
Detective Armstrong: What if I told you we spoke with your
co-worker and his
wife and they told us you left at eleven p.m., not twelve thirty a.m.?
Ron Harrison: Ok, I know it looks bad. I should have told you
the truth
before but I didn't think you’d believe me. I didn't kill the guy.
Detective Armstrong: So tell us where you were from the time
you left till
one a.m. This time it better be the truth.
Ron Harrison: I left the bar at ten as I said before and went
to my buddy's
house. I wasn't sure of the time, if he said it was eleven p.m. then
I'm sure
it was. I was still angry at Latasha. By then, I had forgotten about
Oscar
Knight. He's just one in a long line of men that Latasha has flirted
with. I
know she does it to make me jealous but I can't understand why. She
knows I
love her.
Detective Armstrong: Now, Mr. Harrison, can tell us where you
were between
eleven p.m. and one a.m.?
Ron Harrison: I went for a long drive to think and get my head
straight.
Then I went home and watched TV till Latasha came home. I know I should
have
told the truth but I was afraid you might think I had something to do
with
Knight's murder.
Detective Murphy: Lying to us tends make us think you're
hiding
something. You sure there's nothing else you want to say to us
Mr.
Harrison?
Ron Harrison: Like what?
Detective Armstrong:Your buddy. What is it his
wife does again?
Ron Harrison: She's a vet. So what? I'm
supposed to tell
you what all my friends do for a living?
Detective Armstrong: You should if that person has
access to poisons.
Ron Harrison: Do I need a lawyer?
Detective Armstrong: That's up to you.
Ron Harrison: I told you the truth this time. I had nothing to
do with
Knight's murder. Maybe I should talk to a lawyer. I'm an innocent
man.
Detective Murphy: Ok, Mr. Harrison, we'll stop the interview
now. You're free to go.
Interview ends: 6:38 PM |
