The witness, Beau Dixon, is a thirty-four-year old Caucasian
male. The
interview was conducted at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department and
recorded
on a portable tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.
Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Beau Dixon
Detective Murphy: For the record please state your name and
address.
Beau Dixon: My name is Beau Dixon and I live at 378
Garner
Street. Can you tell me why you've asked me to come down again?
Detective Armstrong: We pulled a bunch of interesting
things out of
the lake.
Beau Dixon: At Lamar Park?
Detective Armstrong: That's right. Where you walk
your dog.
Beau Dixon: Lots of people walk their dogs there.
Lots of people
go there for lots of reasons. Why are you talking to me?
Detective Armstrong: It's been suggested that your dog
found those
body parts because she saw you try to dispose of them. Thought
the two of
you were playing catch.
Beau Dixon: I resent the implication. I haven't
done anything
wrong.
Detective Murphy: One of the items we recovered from the
lake was an
axe. Do you ever use an axe in your line of work?
Beau Dixon: Sure. Demolition sometimes. Tree
removals. I'm not in the habit of throwing out my tools when I
complete
the job.
Detective Armstrong: That probably depends on the type
of job you're
doing.
Detective Murphy: Do you still maintain that you didn't
know Oscar
Knight?
Beau Dixon: I did not know Oscar Knight. You know,
I don't think
I like the tone of this conversation.
Detective Armstrong: We're just talking.
Beau Dixon: If you wanted to talk, we'd meet at a
bar. Order a
pitcher and maybe some wings.
Detective Armstrong: Do you have a drinking problem?
Beau Dixon: I don't believe this. I've done
nothing but
cooperate. Something happens. I call 911. I do my
duty.
And this is how I'm treated.
Detective Murphy: We're not accusing you of anything,
Mr. Dixon.
We're just trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
Beau Dixon: I don't know what happened. I wasn't
there.
One day, I took my Monty to the park, and she brought me a bag of body
parts. That's all I know. That's all I want to know.
Detective Armstrong: One of your neighbors asked if we
thought you
were a serial killer.
Beau Dixon: What? Who?
Detective Murphy: We're not accusing you of being a
serial killer.
Detective Armstrong: Not at this time, anyway.
Beau Dixon: I've never killed anybody.
Detective Murphy: We're glad to hear that. Have
you ever seen
anybody throw anything in the lake at Lamar Park?
Beau Dixon: Breadcrumbs. There's an old lady who
sometimes
brings a bag of breadcrumbs to the park. You think maybe she's a
serial
killer, too? Maybe those aren't really breadcrumbs. Maybe
she chops
people up and throws the bits to the birds to get rid of the evidence.
Detective Armstrong: Have you ever had to get rid of
evidence?
Beau Dixon: That's it. I'm done. Next time
you want to
talk, don't be surprised if I don't answer.
Detective Armstrong: That's okay. We'll send a car.
