The Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that apparent human body parts were found yesterday at Lamar Park in Oxford. A frequent jogger at the park made the discovery.
"I saw something shiny beside the lake and went to check it out," said the jogger, who asked not to be identified. "When I got close, the smell was awful. I knew it had to be something that used to be alive. That's a smell you don't forget."
Public information officer for the YCSD Elizabeth Jones wouldn't specify what body parts were found.
Jones also declined to say whether investigators believe this discovery could be related to the severed finger found at the Rebel Inn five days ago. "The detectives are pursuing all avenues of investigation at this time," Jones said. "It's too early to say whether there could be any connection between the two incidents."
The portions of the Lamar Park path that were closed yesterday while the sheriff's department was investigating have been reopened.
