January 7, 2014

Interviews conducted at the station and by telephone:

Reached all passengers on Magnolia Transit manifest. No one recalls seeing anyone in the Eastgate lot. One passenger, Kristi Dawes, reported seeing a two-door hatchback, dark in color, idling on McLarty Road near a fire hydrant, but to date, no other passengers have confirmed the sighting.

Interviews conducted at interviewee location:

Browning-Ferris Industries employees — Re: trash pick-up January 2, 3 and 4, 2014, at Burger King and Eastgate Shopping Center, both on University Avenue. No luggage observed and nothing unusual noticed in trash pick-up/dump.

Brice Jennings, landfill operator — Nothing unusual noticed.

Search:

Yoknapatawpha County Landfill on Highway 278 — Nothing found.

Background check:

Roger Jetton — Complete. 20 years service, no criminal record. Character interviews conducted. Whereabouts at time of disappearance check out. Excluded as suspect.

Records request:

Submitted request for YCSD call/dispatch records for all dark vehicle reports, two-door vehicle reports, suspicious vehicle reports for the time period 1/2/14 through 1/5/14.

 

January 8, 2014

Search warrant:

Obtained on vehicle owned and operated by Austin Maxwell. Last known location of missing persons. Field tests found no evidence of blood. Fiber samples collected for reference.

Telephone Interview:

Charles Hammel, drug court program field officer for Austin Maxwell — Progress satisfactory. Random testing drug free rate at 87% Phase I, 98% Phase II so far. Test results week of 12/30/14 100% drug free, week of 1/6/14 one positive test. Attendance requirements met 100%. Phase III scheduled to end mid-2014.

Interviews conducted at interviewee location:

William Kapaneko, owner of Victor's Pizza on University near Eastgate. Said he saw a male youth running on S. 18th near Ross Avenue on the morning of 1/3/14 at or near 4:00 a.m.

Background check:

William Kapaneko — Complete. Clean, no criminal record, no known associations with Maxwell family.

K-9 search:

State Forensic K-9 Unit conducted grid search of Eastgate location. Discovery of significant human blood behind Dixie Creek BBQ. See K-9 report. Artist rendering of location completed. Crates and pallets taken into evidence for further analysis.

Austin Maxwell, brother — Follow-up on: argument with siblings, inconsistencies in timeline given in last interview, recent drug test results.
