REPORTING PERSON'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the missing person report.)

At 7:20 p.m., Todd Maxwell and his wife Robin Maxwell arrived at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department to report their son Cameron and their daughter, Caitlin, missing.

Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell said they last saw Cameron and Caitlin on January 3, 2014, at approximately 3:10 a.m. at their residence at 103 Pleasant Drive in Oxford. Mrs. Maxwell indicated that Cameron and Caitlin were scheduled to take the 3:30 a.m. Magnolia Transit shuttle to the Memphis, TN airport to meet a 6:00 a.m. US Airways flight to Boston, Massachusetts, where they were scheduled to stay at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf while participating in the US Figure Skating Championships, January 5 - 12, 2014.

Mrs. Maxwell said Cameron and Caitlin had two Pullman suitcases, one tote bag, one cosmetic case, one duffle bag, four skate bags, and one garment bag with them when they departed.

Mr. Maxwell provided copies of receipts dated December 20, 2013, for the purchase of the airline and bus tickets.

Mr. Maxwell said their elder son, Austin, who also resides at 103 Pleasant Drive, drove Cameron and Caitlin to the Magnolia Transit pick-up location at Eastgate Shopping Center on University Avenue and then returned home.

The Maxwells said it is not unusual for the pair to wait a day or so to call home when traveling. The Maxwells said they became alarmed when they had not heard from either Cameron or Caitlin by the afternoon of January 5, 2014. Mrs. Maxwell said she called the Marriott Long Wharf in Boston on the evening of January 5, 2014, and found that her children had not checked in. Calls to their mobile phones have gone unanswered, and voice mail messages have not been returned.

The Maxwells said they had confirmed with their figure skating contacts that Cameron and Caitlin have not participated in or been seen at the championship events to date.

The Maxwells said they have been unable to confirm whether their children were on the Magnolia Transit shuttle on January 3, 2014, but have confirmed that the two never boarded their flight in Memphis the same morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell were adamant that Cameron and Caitlin would not voluntarily disappear or miss any part of their training.

There is no history of unexplained absences or failure to contact on the part of either Cameron or Caitlin Maxwell.

The Maxwells said they have no theories or reasons for their children's disappearance and said they do suspect foul play.

INITIAL FINDINGS (Did initial inquiries indicate follow-up is appropriate?)

The YCSD confirmed with Lila Grant of Magnolia Transit that the bus company does not retain passenger manifests but that the drivers maintain their records for 90 days. Grant was unable to confirm that Cameron and Caitlin Maxwell were on the 3:30 a.m. shuttle to the Memphis airport on January 3, 2014, but did identify Roger Jetton of Memphis as the driver for that run.

Jetton said in a telephone interview that Cameron and Caitlin Maxwell did not board the January 3, 2014, shuttle at the Eastgate Shopping Center pick-up location.

The YCSD confirmed with US Airways that Cameron and Caitlin Maxwell did not check in or obtain boarding passes and are not listed on the flight manifest for the January 3, 2014, 6:0 a.m. flight out of Memphis to Boston via Charlotte, North Carolina. The airline confirmed that the tickets purchased in their names have not been used or refunded.

In a telephone interview, Austin Maxwell confirmed that he drove Cameron and Caitlin to the Eastgate Shopping Center and dropped them off at approximately 3:30 a.m. on January 3, 2014. Austin indicated that he then returned home and was back in bed by 3:45 a.m. Austin Maxwell alluded to a verbal altercation among the siblings during transit to the Eastgate Shopping Center, which warrants further investigation, and an in-person interview with Austin Maxwell has been scheduled for the morning of January 6, 2014.

A preliminary canvass of the Eastgate Shopping Center found no witnesses who were present between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on January 3, 2014, and who could confirm that Cameron or Caitlin Maxwell were at that location at the time indicated.

Preliminary indications are that foul play may be a possibility, and the situation will be investigated as a potential CAPS case.

  • Yes, Bios1982 what you said about cutting it a bit short to take them to the bus stop is correct. When their trip is so important you don't go concentrating on a big breakfast and then rush to catch your bus. Most people would prepare some food to take with them. Like for example they got a flat tyre or the car broke down. They make no allowance for anything not going to plan. Your right about, camera's must have caught footage of the car during the journey or at the Shopping Centre. And needing to canvas their neighbours to find out if any neighbour heard Austin come home. Detectives will need to ask Austin the exact route he took, and what camera's there is along that route.

  • I don't know if we can trust the reporting officers in this case; they can't even get the missing pair's ages to match their dates of birth! ;)

  • Considering there's really not much to go on, all we can do is make up theories.

Austin seems to be the only suspect, considering he was the last to see them alive.
from what I could see(limited information) Austin had been involved in criminal activities in the past.
This behavior, weather it be drugs, alcohol or just violence shows something in his life was off from the start.
Maybe, him being the oldest and yet still the least succesfull one took its toll. Him being the "screwed up" always standing
in the shadow of his younger siblings slowly built up anger and jelousy in him, until he snapped.

Then getting rid of them, possible murder, maybe he just stashed them somewhere. Not willing to actually kill his brother and sister.

never the less there's still about 60% chance something else happened.
The number could even be higher considering that I do not possess all knowledge.

  • A few things stick in my mind after reading this report:
There was an argument/altercation in the car.
They were dropped off ten minutes before the shuttle to arrive.
The time they were last seen was stated as 3:20am. Stated arrival time was 3:45am.

The existence of an altercation should result in Austin Maxwell's relationship with his siblings being investigated, his arrival time to both locations being verified. No witnesses were there at the time in question, so how can we be certain that Austin drove them there or they were even dropped off?

Distance from the centre to the home is roughly 1.9 miles and with a clear road, the quickest route should take around 5 minutes, longer route around 10 minutes (This is going by Google Maps so accuracy is not fully verifiable.)

The amount of luggage that they were carrying, which i am guessing was stored partially in the boot of the vehicle and the back seats make it unlikely someone would have kidnapped them on a whim. Mainly because the trying to deal with two athletic individuals, subdue them and load the luggage would require a great deal of time. Time that would indeed risk a shuttle passing by or a witness.

I truthfully do believe that Austin is a suspect.

  • @kbg1992
we are still not sure if austin dropped his siblings at the shopping centre..

  • Is there any security cameras through the Eastgate Shopping Center that could help shed the light on whether they have entered bus ?

  • if someone needs to board a bus,he/she will reach the place minimum 10 min before.but here Austin says he dropped the kids at approximately 3.30 am and no witnesses has been found to confirm that both of them were present at the place.so, Austin is the only person who has seen the kids for the last time,he is our only suspect

  • This is not adding up. They were suppose to board the shuttle at 3:30am but, Austin said he dropped them off at 3:30am and was back in bed by 3:45am. The missing person report said they were last seen at 3:20am. Why would they be late to board the shuttle? The report said they had suitcases and bags with them, where are they at? The report said the bus companies does not keep passenger manifests but the drivers keep records for 90 days. They need to check those records. They need to check cameras to verify Austin Maxwell and the driver's stories. Austin Maxwell said there was an altercation between the siblings. I would like to know more about it. It could be that they never arrived at drop-off location.

  • Error Report:
    Status: 200
    Status Text: OK
    Response Text: Invalid token

  • Why was they late getting to the Eastgate Shopping Center to board the shuttle? The timeline does not fit, there are differences in the time last seen. Where are their suitcases and bags? They need to look at Roger Jetton's records. They need to check cameras to verify their stories. I would also like to know what the altercation was about between the siblings. Austin Maxwell needs to be further investigated because his story is not adding up. How long does it take to drive from the home and to the Eastgate Shopping Center? There is too many questions?
