Case Description: Investigation of suspicious finding in Shops and Stores

The Crime Lab provided summary preliminary findings of their forensic analysis of evidence collected from the hidden room discovered in the UM Physical Plant Shops and Stores building.


Serology

001388-03 through 001388-04: Two (2) samples of smear on door interior
Findings: The McPhails Reagent test, which indicates the presence of blood, was performed on the sample. A positive test is indicated by a blue/green color shift. The test turned blue/green indicating the presence of blood.

001388-05 through 001388-06: Two (2) samples of stain on floor, 34 inches from door
Findings: The McPhails Reagent test, which indicates the presence of blood, was performed on the sample. A positive test is indicated by a blue/green color shift. The test turned blue/green indicating the presence of blood.

001388-07 through 001388-08: Two (2) samples of stain on floor in northeast corner
Findings: A Urea test, indicating the presence of urine, was performed on the sample. The test turned blue, indicating the presumptive presence of urine.

Findings: Multiple analyses found the substance was consistent with vomit.

001388-11 through 001388-12: Two (2) samples of dried leaves and seeds
Findings: The Duquenois-Levine test, screening test for marijuana, was performed on the sample. A positive result is indicated buy the rapid color shift to blue. The test turned blue indicating the presumptive presences of marijuana or hashish.

  • I'd be interested to know how many of the unidentified fingerprints (if any) match the other unidentified fingerprints. That would go a long way toward answering whether they belong to just a couple of people or a whole bunch of people. All of the identified fingerprints seem to be accounted for (either Kevin's or the people who found the room). It'd also be interesting to know if any of the unidentified fingerprints match anyone else involved in the case, but I'm not sure about the legal issues regarding obtaining fingerprints without a warrant, etc. I guess the detectives could try to obtain some fingerprints in public places (like if they leave them on a glass in a restaurant or something.)

  • How is it That Charley Jacobs found teh hididng room and had blood on teh inside door what was charlies story decmeber 10th and 11th of 1987

  • does anyone know anything about Charley Jacobs that is of any use????
