Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Mary Bledsoe today in the stabbing death of her daughter, Amy Bledsoe.
Public Information Officer, Elizabeth Jones, said Mary Bledsoe was arrested after an extensive investigation including a search of the Bledsoe home. It was during this search, done with the voluntary written consent of Ms. Bledsoe, that incriminating evidence was found leading to her arrest. Officer Jones declined to state the nature of the evidence but said it was significantly revealing. "Mrs. Bledsoe evidently had issues with her daughter's life decisions which may have exacerbated the situation and led to the homicide," Jones stated.
A hunter in the woods discovered the plastic-wrapped body of Amy Bledsoe, 19, on the morning of December 5. The coroner determined that she had died the evening of December 4 from multiple abdominal stab wounds.
Friends and relatives of the victim expressed shock at the arrest. Victor Bledsoe, father of the victim and ex-husband of the suspect, stated, "I simply can't believe it. Mary loved Amy beyond belief. Maybe that was the problem."
