This interview with the witness, Nancy Wu, was conducted by Detectives S. Murphy and T. Armstrong at theYoknapatawpha County Sheriffs Department, and was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness' knowledge and consent.
SM: Detective S. Murphy
TA: Detective T. Armstrong
NW: Nancy Wu
TA: Thank you for coming in today Miss Wu. Would you please state your name and address for the record?
NW: I am Nancy Scarlett Wu, and I currently reside at the Oliver Britt House 512 Van Buren Ave, Oxford, number 118.
SM: Who do you work for Miss Wu?
NW: I work for Mr. Victor Bledsoe. A very kind man.
SM: Why do you say hes kind? Because he gave you a job? I have a job, but wouldnt really call my Chief a kind man.
NW: Not only for the job, but how he treats me. He took me off the streets and pays for the Hotel I stay at. After Hurricane Katrina, I had nothing.
TA: Yea, that Hurricane Katrina was an amazing ordeal. Did you lose much in it?
NW: I lost everything Detective, except for my violin. The man who saved me from the Coast Guard wanted me to leave it behind, but I wouldnt.
SM: So, Mr. Bledsoe gave you a job? What kind of job?
NW: Im his personal assistant.
SM: What exactly does a personal assistant do?
NW: I do paperwork, do special assignments that he needs done quickly.
TA: So for this he pays your Hotel room, and a salary?
NW: Yes, I receive a salary of ten dollars per hour as well.
SM: So, what are your hours that you have to work?
NW: Well, they vary. Sometimes I work in the early morning and sometimes late at night.
TA: Are you having an affair with Mr. Bledsoe?
NW: What? No, I only work for him.
SM: Miss Wu, you can drop the act. We talked with Mr. Bledsoe and he advised us you two were having an affair.
NW: Victor told you that?
TA: Yes, and I would suggest you start telling us the truth.
NW: Ok, yes we are sleeping together. I dont consider it an affair as he doesnt love his wife. He only married her because he was in bad shape after his divorce to his first wife. He married Jessica to have someone there to console him.
TA: Which position you seem to have taken over.
NW: Well, yes I do console him, but I also love him, and he loves me. We were planning to get married, until this awful murder of his daughter happened.
SM: Where were you on the night his daughter was murdered?
NW: I was at my Hotel all day, and Victor came over around eight.
SM: How long was he there?
NW: Oh, well I would say for a couple of hours.
TA: How was he behaving? Did he seem upset? Distant?
NW: Well, he usually is a little upset when he comes over, but he calms down after we talk for awhile. I dont remember him being any more upset than any other time.
SM: Did you ever meet Amy Bledsoe?
NW: I met her once, when I was in the car with her father. We gave her a ride to a friends house, I cant remember her name exactly... something like Walnut, or Peanut or something like that.
TA: How long ago was that?
NW: Oh, that was about a month before Amy was killed.
TA: Did you ever meet Victors wife, Jessica?
NW: Oh, no I never did. I really stay in my room and do the things Victor requires of me.
SM: Are you still seeing Victor?
NW: Yes, I still work for him and once the killer is discovered we will be married. Are you close to finding out who did this?
TA: Very close Miss Wu. Thank you for your time today.
