On Friday, December 9, 2005, Detectives S. Murphy and T. Anderson interviewed the friends that were hunting with Fred Anderson the day the victim’s body was found. The witnesses were questioned about Fred Anderson’s whereabouts on that morning from the time they convened until the time when Mr. Anderson found the body. The excerpts from the interviews were found relevant to the investigation.
- Jack Hanson, Oxford, MS
Mr. Hanson says that he and the others met with Mr. Anderson around 5:20 a.m. on the morning of Monday, December 5th to hunt deer. He says that they separated to find their own spots and he was at his post until he heard commotion about Mr. Anderson finding a body. Mr. Hanson says that by the time he arrived near the location of the body, Mr. Anderson was on the way to his truck to call 911 and believes that Mr. Anderson would definitely not have had enough time to kill the victim.
- Ben Harris, Tupelo, MS
Mr. Harris says that Mr. Anderson and the other hunters in the group met to hunt
deer on the morning of Monday, December 5th around 5:20 or 5:30 a.m. Mr. Harris says that once they all arrived, they split up to find their own personal hunting spots and he was there until he heard that Fred Anderson found the body of the victim. Mr. Harris says he didn’t want to get close because he knew that police would be all around and he didn’t want to get in the way of their investigation. Mr. Harris also says that, given the time frame, Fred Anderson would not have had enough time to kill the victim and Mr. Harris has never seen the victim, himself.
- Walter Martin, Oxford, MS
Mr. Martin says that himself, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Harris and Mr. Hanson all arrived around 5:30 a.m. at the site where they were going to hunt for the day on Monday, December 5th. He says they separated to find a hunting spot and as far as he knew, he and the other hunters were all at their spots until he heard that Mr. Anderson found a body of a young girl. From afar, he saw Mr. Anderson run to his vehicle to call 911 and says that Mr. Anderson must’ve stumbled across the body of the victim while looking for his hunting spot. Mr. Martin says Mr. Anderson would not have had time to kill the victim or position her as she was.
