Interview: Susan Orchard, co-worker of the victim

Tuesday, January 10, 2006 - 1:14 p.m.

The witness was identified as one of Amy's co-workers at McDonalds. The interview took place at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff’s Office. The interview was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness’ knowledge and consent.

TA= Detective T. Armstrong
SM= Detective S. Murphy
SO= Susan Orchard

SM: Thank you for coming in today, Susan. Would you please state your name and address for the record?

SO: Ummm..ok, it's like,  Susan Orchard and I live with my parents at.... oh my, I'm so nervous I like forgot my address.

SM: It's ok to be nervous Susan, when you think of it you just let us know, okay?  Now, what made you want to talk to us today?

SO: Well, like, I called you because I was talking with Mr. Phoung, the owner, and I made a comment about that old guy who was coming around. I don't know if, like, the Officer I talked to told you or not, but like the last couple weeks that Amy...Amy... was alive, a creepy old guy was coming around.

TA: Yes, we did know about that.  So, what did you and Mr. Phoung talk about?

SO: Well, like, Mr. Phoung said he knew who the guy was. That he recognized him from a newspaper.  Like, the guy was a Private Detective. Mr. Phoung said he'd solved some big case recently.

TA: Did Mr. Phoung know the guy's name?

SO: He said it was some weird name, like Polish or something.  I don't know.... maybe Crumbowski, or Dumpkowski.  That's where I live, 610 S. 14th.

SM: Could the man's name possibly be Polaski? Jake Polaski?

SO: Yeah, I think so. I know he was like, really fat. Do you know him?

TA: Yes, we do. He used to be a Detective here at the Department, but left to start his own Private Detective Agency.

SO: Oh, so he's not some weirdo?

SM: Well, he may be a little odd, but I wouldn't classify him as a weirdo.

TA: Susan, when Mr. Polaski was around, was he just looking for Amy, or was he watching other people?

SO: Well, he only asked about Amy, but I always felt like a little creepy when he was around. He did order a lot of double cheeseburgers though.

SM: I'm sure he did.  Thank you, Susan, for coming in.  If you think of anything else, please do come see us.

SO: Sure, no problem.

Interview ends 1:39 p.m.
