This witness, identified as the mother of the victim, was interviewed at her home. The interview was conducted by Det. Sam Murphy and Det. Ted Armstrong, and was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.
TA = Detective T. Armstrong
SM = Detective S. Murphy
MB = Mary Bledsoe
SM: For the record, could you state your name and address?
MB: Certainly. My name is Mary Bledsoe and I live at 17 Van Buren St.
SM: You have a lovely home.
MB: Thank you. I do try.
SM: We'd like permission to search Amy's room.
MB: Certainly. Although I can't imagine what you hope to find there.
SM: Basically, we're looking for anything that might point a finger at her murderer.
MB: Are you suggesting her killer came into the house that night?
SM: Not necessarily. But there might be a letter or diary containing some sort of motive.
MB: Nobody could have any reason to murder my daughter.
TA: But somebody did murder her.
MB: I've come to the conclusion that it must have been a case of mistaken identity.
TA: By the person who arranged to pick her up?
MB: That's assuming that someone hadn't broken in and killed her.
TA: A burglar?
MB: They would have seen my car leave and assumed the house was empty. He killed her and then took the body away to buy himself time.
SM: Was there any sign a burglar had been in the house?
MB: Amy might-- I'm sorry.
SM: Have you noticed any strange cars hanging around the neighborhood?
MB: No, but I haven't been looking.
TA: A red Lexus?
MB: Maybe. I don't know.
SM: Do we have your permission to search the garage as well as Amy's room?
MB: Of course. I just want you to find her killer.
Interview ends: 11:27 a.m.
