The witness, Jessica Bledsoe, stepmother of the victim, was interviewed at the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff’s Office, and the interview was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness' knowledge and consent.
SM: Detective S. Murphy
TA: Detective T Armstrong
JB: Jessica Bledsoe
SM: Thank you for joining us today, Mrs. Bledsoe. Would you please state your name and address for the record?
JB: Yes, my name is Jessica Bledsoe, and my address is 310 Lewis Lane, in Oxford. I live with my husband, Victor Bledsoe. This has been so hard for him. Do you have any idea who the killer may be?
TA: We are working on that, Mrs. Bledsoe.
JB: Well, for Victor’s sake I hope you find someone soon. The poor man is just beside himself with grief.
SM: This must be tough on you too then. I mean while Amy wasn’t your daughter, she was your step-daughter. You spent time with her, didn’t you?
JB: Well, of course I spent time with her. She would come over quite often.
SM: To see Victor?
JB: Yes, to see Victor, and me. We got along very well.
TA: So you and Amy never had any problems?
JB: Other than just little household rules, nothing.
SM: Household rules? Like what?
JB: Oh, just the normal things. For instance, using coasters to place her drinks on, or taking her shoes off to come in the house, or hanging her towel up after a shower. Just little things that I like to have done in my home that were new for her.
TA: Other than that the two of you didn’t have any problems?
JB: No, none at all.
TA: How about you and Victor? Are the two of you getting along?
JB: Well, as I said, he is taking this whole murder very hard, and that does strain our relationship some.
SM: How about before the murder?
JB: Our marriage is perfect. We have no problems. We do not argue, and we have complete faith and trust in each other. We have a very open relationship with each other. We communicate about everything, we can tell each other anything.
TA: Did Victor tell you where he was on the night of the murder?
JB: What do you mean, Detective? You can’t possibly believe Victor would have anything to do with this do you?
SM: Victor told us he was at home with you. Is that true?
JB: Yes, he was with me, the entire evening.
TA: Do you know of anyone who might want to hurt Amy?
JB: She was a delightful young woman. I don’t know that I would let my daughter run around with pink streaks in her hair.... However, I understand that is the trend these days.
TA: If you were to think of anyone who would be capable of doing this, who would you think of?
JB: I can’t think of anyone, Detective. Possibly someone she knew? I didn’t know all of her friends.
SM: Well, thank you Mrs. Bledsoe for coming in today. If we have any further questions. we will be contacting you.
JB: You're welcome.
Interview ends: 11:53 a.m.
