The witness entered the station and asked to speak to a detective. The interview took place at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriffs Office and was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness knowledge and consent.
TA= Detective T. Armstrong
SM= Detective S. Murphy
BD=Buzz Dakota
SM: So Buzz, what brings you in?
BD: The Bledsoe girl. The one that was murdered?
SM: What about her?
BD: I saw it happen.
TA: The aliens get her, Buzz?
BD: No, of course not. If they were responsible, they would have gotten me as well.
TA: Who, then?
BD: I don't know.
SM: Why don't you start at the beginning?
BD: I was plotting vehicle positions. You know how the aliens communicate by license plates? I've been trying to decode their messages.
SM: Having any luck?
BD: Some. Anyway, I saw the story about the Bledsoe girl and I recognized the house. I was documenting Van Buren Street that very afternoon.
TA: What time?
BD: They can change time.
TA: What did you see then. Or can they change that too?
BD: I never considered that possibility. It only makes sense. Memory is just another brain wave.
SM: Buzz, I'm sure they can't do that yet. What did you see?
BD: One of the cars had someone sitting in it. He was watching that house.
SM: Are you sure?
BD: He never took his eyes off it.
TA: Could you identify him?
BD: Not through the rear window.
TA: How about the car?
BD: I don't really know much about cars.
SM: You said you were documenting license plates. I don't suppose there's any chance you remember the plate of that car.
BD: Course I do. Why else would I come in? WRW-933
TA: And how can you be sure you remember that specific plate, out of all the plates you saw that day?
BD: My work in important and I treat it that way. The survival of the human race is at stake.
SM: You keep up the good work, Buzz.
BD: I will.
TA: Thanks for coming in to talk to us.
Interview ends: 3:44 p.m.
