Evidence: Report on K-9 Unit's Search of Rowan Oak Grounds

YOKNAPATAWPHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

Investigating Officer(s): Det. S. Murphy. Det. T. Armstrong
Incident No.: 001547-30D-2001
Case Description: Achim Michaelis Homicide

A potential witness, Donna Swinney, is believed to have been at the crime scene at or near the time of the murder of Achim Michaelis. Swinney has not been heard from since April 30, 2001, and investigators have not been able to locate her, despite intensive efforts to do so. In addition to blood of a type consistent with the victim Michaelis, a second blood type was found at the crime scene consistent with the blood type of Donna Swinney. Therefore, investigators decided to employ cadaver dogs to determine a human body had been hidden on the grounds at Rowan Oak. The Lee County (MS) Sheriff's Department cooperated with the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department to provide K-9 teams trained in locating deceased human bodies for a search of the Rowan Oak grounds.

The Lee County Sheriff's K-9 Unit submitted the following report on the search results to Detectives Murphy and Armstrong after the completion of the search efforts.
