Research: E-Mail from Hunter to Rachel

The Dead House, now called Farley Hall, had an old elevator shaft with access to the tunnels.

The dumwaiter elevator took us into a crawl space that lead to the tunnel's mouth.

The shaft leading into the tunnels. It was too dark to take any more pictures.

Floorplan of the Dead House. The old elevator access and shaft are marked. View enlarged image here.

Hey sis, WE FOUND IT!

That's right, and we didn't even need your brains to help. We went to Farley Hall and looked around in the basement, but it's all newspaper offices, a radio station and a printing press. No dark corridors or broom closets. Finally, Zach found a door in the middle of the wall in the stairwell, but it was locked. So we asked some of the teachers and even the head of the student media, and nobody knew what it was. So Mel got the idea to ask a janitor, since we've had a lot of luck with janitors so far. Sure enough, this janitor had a huge ring of keys, he found the one to open the door and inside was a dumbwaiter. That's like a mini elevator, but I'm sure you knew that. It was probably used to carry books up and down from the library.

When all the fuss died down and everybody left, we lifted Zach up and he went inside. He crawled down the shaft and found a small tunnel, which he crawled through, and it led to a secret room with all sorts of pipes and stuff. It looked to be pretty far underground. And then, he found it! The entrance to the tunnels. Just like it shows on the map. He took the cameras and got some good shots. I attached some of them to this e-mail.

So we're definitely going in, probably tonight. Too bad you can't be here to share the glory with us. We'll take the cellphone and modem and send you some updates. Tell mom I love her. See ya, Rach!
