Joy Elaine Stillman was born to Luther and Agnes Jenson on January 23, 1970. Agnes and Luther were overjoyed and celebrated with a big party when they brought the baby home from the hospital. Joy was a very smart little girl, but she always getting into some kind of trouble. Her parents had to put locks on all the cabinet and bathroom doors and drawers because Joy was so curious and got into everything. Before the locks were in place, she opened a can of Drano and put some of it in her juice cup and drank it with the juice. Agnes covered her mouth and tongue with butter and rushed her to the doctor. Joy had burned her mouth and throat, but the doctor said she hadn't drunk enough to kill her, but enough to hurt. Agnes spent two days in the rocking chair holding Joy as she rocked and consoled her as best she could. While Joy was in high school, she experimented with drugs, sneaked out of the house at night and went to wild parties. At the age of 17, she discovered that she was pregnant. The baby's father wasn’t interested and said the baby wasn't his, and Joy didn't want the baby either. She decided to have an abortion until her parents offered her a large sum of money to have the baby and give it to them. Joy agreed, thinking this was her chance to get away from what she called self-righteous parents and a bunk town. After the birth of Joy's baby, she packed her belongings and left Oxford. Luther and Agnes were heartbroken. Their daughter never bothered to call or write and they have no idea where she is. |
